and really the answer is (coming from an econ major) i realized how corrupt so many modern stores are. think about it- the people who make the actual clothes are paid such a tiny amount of the total cost. Usually 70-90% of a price is simply MARKUP. 

I am willing to pay for labor, but I am not willing to line the pockets of Macy’s and Nordstroms and Walmart. The money that comes from us goes any number of ways- to dividends (payoffs for stockholders), to retained earnings (profit for the company, aka paying the C-level execs), to buying new plots of land for retail. Etc. 

But so little of it is going to the workers. Because corporations like Macy’s, and Walmart, Target and SONY and A&F etc etc… They have deals with companies that represent factories that employ individuals to make clothes. At each level the amount of money handed down gets smaller and smaller.

And guess what? A SHIT TON of brands source from the same areas and countries. That’s why you see it everywhere- MADE IN INDIA, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Guatemala. 

Because a company is always trying to max profits they are going to pay the lowest wages they can, which is usually just an active exploitation of the people of developing countries. 

Point in case: these companies are evil. They don’t pay their workers, and the majority of their wealth comes from huge markups on the clothes they sell to us.

and even if there are blind spots - if an SA is on to you, there are about 4848395 cops for them to call. and you can’t really dip out of the entire airport without being super sus. which is a great way to get the TSA to assault you.

first off, unfortunately, this entire mini haul started off as sus because a) this person is a male passing person in an exlusive makeup and beauty store. (this isn’t to say masculine ppl aren’t allowed to delve in makeup and self-care, but… unfortunately, to a gendered society, and an lp person watching a camera that likely thinks in terms of gender roles, this would come off as very strange, possibly even laughable.) then b) this person is wearing a suit in the store, which does give the appearance they they have money and can afford to buy, but it’s such a blatant way that it’s more like they’re obviously flossing for that purpose

case in point, the very second they walk through the door and into the camera view, they’re immediately sus, and a person watching the cameras would likely be watching and tracking them specifically

now, this person does seem to be going to perfumes and colognes. i can’t tell if they’re looking at the male marketed goods or not, but at least that does make sense regarding the gender roles thing i was talking about earlier - but also immediately damns them because the lp can take a guess like i did at their purpose of being in the store, ie instead of trying to take something unexpected they’re taking exactly what an lp would expect them to take and having made a beeline to that item (presumably expensive cologne)

on top of that, they immediately ruin any pretense by clearly not having a regard for cameras, and crouching so long. to their credit they aren’t obviously looking for cameras, but… they wouldn’t have done it like this if they even cared about cameras at all

what chuu said is correct, this was definitely too swift, especially since even if there wasn’t a camera on that particular area where we can see them blatantly pocket the goods, if they had wandered from behind that aisle empty handed, what happened would have still been obvious and reasonable suspicion would likely apply

then they proceed to go and mindlessly wander around, uninterested in anything. they do sort of pause for a few seconds to look at a display, but then they just go on to keep on walking so swiftly, not casual at all. in trying to give the appearance of casually browsing they’re actually making it more obvious that they’re fronting “browsing”

they also seem to start crouching mid-step so it’s obvious they’re just concealing. it doesn’t come off like something caught their eye and they wanted a close look, the turn of their head gives me the impression they want it to come off like that. i guess what i’m saying here is instead, they should have been walking slower, slowed to a full hault, gazed down for a minute consideringly, then come back up with the item they wanted to make it look like they got interested in in their hands. then at this point it would have been optional to put it back immediately or put it somewhere random, instead of just *walking RANDOM HELLA SUS SWIFT CROUCH OUT OF NOWHERE continues walking*

yesterday and today I went to a few stores not in a mall and managed to get at least $400 (that’s an estimate) worth of stuff combined. pics and all to come later but I had a bit of a scare at target today. 

I had a fitbit, a phone case and some instax film concealed up in my coat (while I was wearing it) which wasn’t so bad although I did look kind of lumpy. Not super lumpy but probably more so than I would have liked. I had a couple of other things already in my purse. While I was walking towards the bathroom to conceal it all in my purse, I passed the end of an aisle where there happened to be an LP standing more towards the other end of the aisle but I think looking in my direction. I assume he probably at least caught a glance at me, although I don’t know if I aroused any suspicion. So I went to the bathroom and put it all in my purse (it was kind of a tight fit) and after that went and joined back up with my family and we were about to leave. Before leaving I noticed that there was 1 LP standing at one exit (although that’s not the exit we left through) and then when we got to the other exit, there was another LP standing right around there. I walked literally within a few feet of him probably, and I was kind of worried. I wasn’t aware of anything that I had being tagged, so I didn’t think the towers would go off, but I was still worried. It ended up being fine, but it was a bit too close for comfort. I don’t know if the LP were suspicious of me, although I think it’s definitely possible they could have been. Thankfully, I wasn’t stopped or anything, but I wish I didn’t have to walk out so close to LP. 

For one thing, I’ve never been to target and seen TWO LP at the same time (there could have been another in an office somewhere too?). In the past, I only ever saw one and sometimes I didn’t even see any. (btw: they’re uniformed and wear kind of like athletic style navy and white t shirts that say security on the back. so they’re not hard to miss or anything)  I’m not sure if this is only a temporary thing to have 2 LP, or if that’s how it’s going to be at this location from now on. I feel like the holiday season (and its increased security) is over by now but who knows, maybe to the stores it isn’t. This happened at around 4 pm on a Sunday, so I also wonder if the time/day of the week had anything to do with there being 2 LP. The store was decently busy, maybe with a few more customers than I would have liked but not super super crowded. I also wonder if the LP were suspicious of me. Again, I think it definitely could have been possible but I can’t know for sure. I did go into the bathroom, which would be a break in surveillance, and technically if they were following their rules, they wouldn’t be allowed to apprehend me, but I know sometimes LP don’t follow their rules completely. All in all it was too close for comfort and it leaves me with a few unanswered questions. I probably won’t go back to that target anytime in the super near future, so I’m not too worried regarding that, but it was a bit of a scare. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the same LP employee at target twice. Although I don’t go there super often so maybe it doesn’t really mean anything. 

I also remember seeing that a lot of times, if they’re going to make a stop, they actually hide outside or further inside where you can’t see them. waiting by the door is sometimes (SOMETIMES) just an intimidation tactic when they’re sus but can’t quite justify stopping you. not that I would rely on that in the future, but it might help explain your story.
