When we talk or write about love, are we talking about past lovers, present lovers, or love in general? I'd love to know your perspective on this :)
I think that when we talk or write about love in general, we're almost always talking about our past lovers. There's a certain amount of regret and sadness in remembering a beautiful connection that didn't survive the harshness of what is actually required for true love to be nourished. I think this only changes when the old love that brings us sadness is replaced by another equally or even more painful, unsuccessful, impossible love hahah
When we have a current lover, we often communicate our thoughts and feelings directly with them. These are the intimate moments that make real love so special - the ability to relax, let go of control, and stop worrying about the outcome. Just feelings and thoughts that the object of our desire is as willing to receive as we are to share them.
So what I really think is that we only write when it's nostalgic and when it hurts. When the subject is gone, too far away to witness or reciprocate the love we still feel for them. That subject can easily be replaced by another equally unsuccessful love, but the one who remains in love doesn't have to read about love, they live it through the experience we provide. If that makes sense to you at all haha
