Some aspects of patriarchy work for some folks some of the time, yes. Trying to force everyone to conform to it, however, is not only abusive but also stupid. It is inefficient and will lead to worse outcomes, both for the individuals concerned and for wider society and the economy.

If you insist that all women should prefer to stay home and look after the household and family, then you're assuming all women excel at the people management and co-ordination, and professional-level organisational skills, and top-tier communication skills, required for the role - as well as having high levels of physical stamina. You're assuming they would all be happy working basically solo, or at best as part of a remote team, are all first-rate at trouble-shooting and creative problem-solving, and all have the mental and emotional flexibility and bandwidth to handle last-minute, left-field demands.

Not only will that not be true for every woman, but for some it will be so far removed from their actual strengths, that it's just bloody well inefficient to force them to do all that.

You may as well say that all men "must" excel at maths and take engineering jobs, and should never be allowed to be creative writers or artists. Can you imagine thinking cooking is women's work and therefore Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsay should have gone into tech, or the miltary, or whatever, instead?

Insisting that the only options open to people are the ones that they do not have the aptitude or personality for, is a sure-fire recipe for deep unhappiness, marital breakdown, suicidal ideation - not to mention a classic recipe for domestic violence and child abuse.

So. My identity as a submissive wife suits me. My default assumption is that I'm actually in the minority for actively choosing and preferring to identify this way. I don't mind whether it's a minority or a majority - for me the important part is that folks choose for themselves and have had enough life experience that they are making an informed choice when they do.
