People are complete idiots. Like, I'm sorry, but Chrissy and Eddie were both young adults with only TWO years apart. Y'all act like Eddie was a 50 year old man trying to groom Chrissy, and y'all act like Chrissy was 12 or something. She was a senior in high school on her way to going into college. i think we as a community need to put more emphasis on the fact that all of eddie's friends are slightly afraid of him. obviously this cannot be due to any real threat of physical or emotional harm so my instinct is to believe this is related to his terrifying lack of shame. hanging out with eddie is knowing that he has a perpetual bomb strapped to his chest in the form of his extreme willingness at practically any time or place to embarrass the fuck out of the both of you, together, with no escape, and only one of you will suffer any lasting psychic damage for it.

Single dad Steve AU headcanons and maybe a lil blorb story?

ngl this one got a lil dark, not exactly on purpose, but I got super into it. It talks a lot about the way I see Steves emotional/mental state and the relationship he has with his parents which I would gladly elaborate on more, that said, I would gladly elaborate on literally anyone- character analysis is such a constant hyper fixation I do it to literally every character in everything ever.

So, this one was almost difficult for me to think on at first, bc tbh I don't see Steve being a single dad for just one kid. Like I feel in my version of things at least, something tragic happened, his partner died, left him with multiple kids. I might get back to you on the names of said kids and who I decide the other parent is if I end up really cooking on this.
That being said, I def think mama bird Steve tries so hard to spend all the time he can with his kids but being alone with several mouths to feed he has to work too, a lot, and that means he's always tired.
Steve goes out of his way to try and have at least one full day off a week; it made him really good at budgeting and saving. He ALWAYS takes birthdays off, no exception, that way his kids get him all day that day. He spends so much time for them because yeah, his parents were there, sort of, it was usually never about him though, always about them and the people watching him from the outside. The people watching that didn't know him, just knew what they wanted from him.
Steve does what he can to build up his kids' self-confidence, always praising their efforts and looks and grades, even if they're bad, because he wants them to be happy and proud of themselves the way he doesn't feel he can be. Bad grades and things, he still tells them it could be better, but when he does its gentle. He asks them what they struggled with, how he can help, offers to teach them what he can or get them library books because this way they can feel confident in who they are and the skills they learn.
The way Steve parents in my mind is heavily influenced by and rooted in the relationship he had with his parents and by his own insecurities, in the desire we all have to make sure our kids don't suffer through things we had to suffer. He would especially struggle in the aspect of being, well, single. In the idea he has multiple kids, either the other parent is dead or left, he would also have to parent children who lost a parent. He would have to parent while grieving the relationship he had with their other parent. I think that Steve is at the end of the day just trying to survive and make sure his kids can live a better life than he thinks he has.
Shifting focus when it comes to parenting I also definitely think he's a girl dad, I think he has just an easier time with girls because he can absolutely listen to them cry and talk and play princess! Boys, those are harder, because the instinct to lean into the toxic masculinity he was surrounded with and partook in is unconscious sometimes, the kind of slip we all have at some point or another, saying or doing something you didn't mean because it was learned behavior. For Steve when his son cries, sure he comforts them the same he would with his daughters, but there's that little nagging voice in his head that says boys should be strong. "Crying is strong, though." Someone may have reminded him of that at a time when he was struggling. He fights the toxic masculinity in his memories with the things he heard from Robin, from Nancy and Dustin, from all the people in his life that still matter to him because of the relationship they have.
