Iâve never gone so quick from âWow, thatâs so cartoon-accurate, where did they hide the car parts?â to âOh. I see.â

Reasons I like transformers G1 #728:
I love you.
What's this man's name?
He originally didnât have a name, but since itâs Transformers someone decided to give him one 30 years later. According to TFwiki heâs âPlayback.â

Listen, I love when the toys and the cartoon look like each other, but âmost show accurate toylinesâ kinda overlooks the fact that itâs generally the show that chooses whether or not to accurately render the toy.
I mean, when I was nine I wondered what the hell was up with G1 Ironhide and Ratchet but I also kinda knew it wasnât the toysâ fault.
Giant robots need love too!
Oh, that zany Swerve and his crazy shenanigans.
âFive Faces of Darkness, Part 5â, part of the third season of The Transformers.
That scorecard isnât for the enemies heâs shot down, it represents all the Autobots who have made fun of him this week.
I have been listening to Transformers Japanese opening for the past hour. It is such a bop.

This may be stupid but I think I just closed a Transformers cartoon plot hole after 31 years.
Everybody knows the Quintessons are portrayed inconsistently between Transformers: The Movie and âFive Faces of Darkness.â In the movie, theyâre just weird aliens that the Autobots run into, who like to put prisoners on trial and execute them right after finding them innocent, because lol so random. In âFive Faces,â though, the Quints are retconned into the creators of the Transformers, so their motive for putting Autobots on trial has changed.Â
The plot hole is that the Quintessonâs judgement has changed. In âFive Facesâ Kup and Ultra Magnus are, by virtue of being Autobots, charged with theft of Cybertron. The verdict isnât directly stated, but theyâre implicitly guilty, since we know the charges are true (from the Quintsâ point of view, anyway). However, when Hot Rod and Kup are tried in the movie, theyâre explicitly found innocent. Obviously it doesnât make much difference if youâre going to be fed to Sharkticons either way, but it makes you wonder why the Quintessons âexoneratedâ Hot Rod and Kup.
Well, recently I watched âFive Facesâ and paid more attention to the dialogue:
SPIKE: What crime did the Autobots commit?
QUINTESSON: Theft.
ULTRA MAGNUS: Youâre confusing us with Decepticons.
QUINTESSON: Do you not occupy Cybertron?
SPIKE: Huh?
So it finally hit me: Hot Rod and Kup were found innocent in the movie because, at that time, the Autobots didnât occupy Cybertron--the Decepticons did. Quintesson law, apparently, is less concerned with who took the planet than with who has it right now. Which fits with the Quintsâ motivations--although theyâd love to get revenge on all Transformers, their primary objective is to get Cybertron back. (Which makes you wonder what they were up to before the movie, but thatâs another issue.)
Again, itâs a minor distinction in light of the fact that they execute you either way. But it reveals a method to the Quintsâ madness--theyâre going to kill you, but first they want to meticulously determine whether you had it coming.
the dinobots are surprised he got a brain just look at snarl.
