Om is the mantra of three letters A-U-M A is the past, the waking state, the physical plane U is the present, dream state, the mental plane M is the future, deep sleep, the intellect Om is a sacred sound & the representation of the creator. Om is on its own & doesn’t need another syllable to make its sound. Chanting Om gives a sense of the source of the universe & when chanted, Om’s sound reverberates through the body, filling it with energy & tranquility. Om exists in everything; the words we speak, the things we use & in ourselves. Daily chanting give peace to the mind, body & soul. Meditation that involves the chanting of Om combines breath & sound to form a comprehensive meditation technique. * Clear your head, sit peacefully with your palms face up in your lap. * Turn your eyes slowly downwards & close them lightly & gently. * Breathe naturally & keep the jaw muscles relaxed. * Observe your breath & don’t force it. * With each exhale, chant ‘Om’ & fit the chant to the breath. * Break the ‘Om’ syllable to ‘A-A-U-U-M’, followed by silence keeping it in sync with the breath. * Listen to the internal vibrations created in your body while chanting ‘Om’ & allow your being to sink into its waves. In Om meditation, do not concentrate on any particular part of the body & when the mind wavers around allow it to come back to focus through chanting. We start by connecting to our energy centers with a guided meditation to connect with each energy center and experience the sensation it holds. New moons are a time to call in new energy and intentions for the month ahead. All too often our limiting beliefs get in our way and block us from manifesting our desires so working with our chakras and participating/consciously guiding the energy through our system is one way to start recognizing that we are power manifesting beings in charge of our reality. By letting go of the fears we hold and blockages we have unknowingly put in place we can release what no longer serves us if only for a moment and begin to materialize our desires into our reality. Suggestions: Yoga mat, blanket, pillow and water. This is so powerful, we have within us a unifying point for all our chakras, meaning if our tribe defines our world or another advises to guide us we have this beautiful integration point where we can feel if it resonates with us and for us. If our higher self gives us feedback or we have intuitive hits we can check with our heart to see if and when it resonates for action. Words cast spells which is why mantras are so powerful as a meditative practice. Generally they are a statement in the present and read as a positive affirmation, meaning that you want to state what you wish to manifest and avoid words like don’t or can’t. It is the intention that manifests and not the voiding of the statement so statements like “I am love”, “ohm” or “abundance flows through me” feel more appropriate compared to mantras that start with I don’t want or I can’t.
