You get things that are said about you on the internet so obviously you have to be very thick skinned. And I think that’s the one thing I’ve learned over time is to be more… to be less bothered about that sort of stuff.

Let’s say I’m jumping out of an airplane, when I was in One Direction I was like “yeah sure I’ll jump out of an airplane. Why not, I’ll have a go.” But now the first thing that comes to my mind is “What about my son now. It’d be a stupid thing to do.” There’s always that thought process. That’s part of being a parent I guess.

I performed at Wembley Stadium a couple of days ago, first gig I’ve ever done on my own, which was amazing and to 80 thousand people it was crazy, I mean nuts. And I was really proud of myself, I’ll be honest. I never used to say this, I’m hugely critical of myself a lot of the time and I read into a lot of different things. I watched it back afterwards and when you finished off stage there’s a real numb feeling and I only got to do one song so it was like I spent all day building up to this moment and I got 3 minute and 48 seconds worth of “YAY” and then I was off the stage I felt like ‘was it any good or was it not any good?“ […] but I was really really proud of myself.

Over the years, I didn’t realise how many guitars I had. And then, when we finished our last tour, my guitar technician, he gave me all of the guitars that I had collected for the last four, five years, he just came up to my house with this big flight case with all of my guitars in it, and there was literally – I found out I had 25 guitars. I’ve since auctioned some off, and I’ve probably still got about 15, maybe. But it’s so good, I love guit-, guitars are like, they’re just amazing to have. You get a really good one, you look after it.
