to be clear- david liked jokes. david liked snark and sass and pranks and all the rest. his old team had liked to suggest he had a stick up his anus, but then they’d all been subjected to weeks of david ‘getting’ every single one of them and had retracted said statement. much to david’s pleasure. 

but he was of the firm belief that there was a time and place for everything. and that there was social context. right now… tommy was defying that social context. and it made david all tangled like a pair of annoying headphones. 

“if that’s a joke out there, then i don’t like it.” he rubbed his temples before taking a breath and staring tommy down. “you can make jokes without it being at other people’s expense, tommy. i get that you like to turn everything into a complete mockery but that… wasn’t cool. i thought you respected me more than that.”

he knew david was going to do exactly this. it was funny to him. . . even if he was getting reprimanded. crush or not, he was use to this talk. from eli usually in the past. 

   “Don’t! You! Dare!” Just gonna causally shoot him with a non-lethal stun arrow. He’s had practice. He’s hit Pietro with this arrow before. Tommy Shepherd is a terror that must be stopped.

one of these days david was going to lose his shit with tommy and his ridiculous – 

“we’re in public. we’re not even–” what were they? david glanced around and noted that kate and america had their heads buried in kate’s phone watching something and loki was reading some book. note to self- look up said book to work out what the hell he was up to later. grabbing tommy’s wrist, david dragged him out of the room and into the cleaning cupboard. 

“what are you getting at?”

at first this was all a joke. a little shenanigans to put up in front of everyone. though, looking around none of them seemed to care at all. and now david has him by his wrist leading him out like some kid. david was this kind of person. the one with a parental voice reprimanding others. he was laughing a little imagining that. it was david’s question that pulls him out from getting carried away. . . and man did it hit him. enough to draw stumbles from his tone. 

   “GO TO HELL!          Or y’know, I’ll toss you into a dumpster.”
