Flashing a smile, Sophia leaned over the boothās front to take the giant zebra sheād managed to win.Ā āThanks! Iāve had my eye on this all day!ā Beaming, she turned away from the booth, making her way back towards the BBQ. Looking over her prize, she ran through a list of potential names in her head, taking only a moment to feel silly for still naming her stuffed animals.Ā āJimmy. Definitely Jimmy.ā Glancing around, she took in all the happy couples shuffling past, scoffing softly to herself.Ā āWelp, Jimmy, looks like itās just me and you.ā Without looking up, Sophia continued her walk. Suddenly, she felt herself slam into someone sheād managed to walk in front of.Ā āOh! Iām so sorry! I definitely need to pay more attention! Are you alright?ā

āItās four dollars individually or three for ten dollars for hotdogs, you can have either cheese, onions or jalapenos with ketchup or mustard and oh my god iām boring myself just talking about itā¦.ā she trailed off, wondering whose ass she forgot to kiss to end up being put on bbq duty. It was Valentines day, which also meant her birthday and even though she had no intention on making that little tidbit known, she at least wanted to spend it nose deep in a bottle of jack. Not flipping burgers like a pre-teen for all of Charmingās residents.
Sophia smiled, listening as the woman gave her speech regarding the price of hotdogs. Nodding, her eyes scanned the spread at the stand in front of her. Pulling her wallet from her purse, she plucked a $5 bill from the folds, offering it to the other.Ā āI appreciate the offer, but Iām not exactly a meat-eater. I will gladly take one of those lemonades, though. Unless, of course, you have a soy or tofu option?ā

āFuck yeah! Thatās what Iām talking about!ā Cliff said, letting out whoops as he successfully managed to bring down the third pile of old milk bottles with a baseball, which gave him the chance to win the biggest plush toy out of the prizes.Ā āOh shit, waitāā Cliff started to say, about to explain that he didnāt even want it, just literally played the game for the sake of playing but the attendant was already on to the next customer, causing Cliff to look around, standing there awkwardly with a huge panda stuffed toy under his arm.Ā āSay, you want this?ā He asked suddenly, opting to soften the randomness with a sheepish smile.Ā āNo catch, but I, uh, I didnāt expect to win it and so Iām giving it away, all in the spirit of Valentineās or whatnot, right?ā
Exploring the Valentineās Day festivities wasnāt something Sophia had planned on doing- not fully, anyway, But, the draw of the flashing lights, the music, and really the nostalgiaĀ of it all had gotten to her, drawing her out. As she made her way through the aisle of games, she stopped in her tracks when she heard the sound of a familiar voice.Ā āMe?ā She asked curiously, cocking an eyebrow as her eyes fell to the large plushie under Cliffās arm.Ā āSo we meet again. Wild circumstances.ā She laughed, her eyes falling momentarily to the ground before reconnecting with his once more.Ā āYou sure there isnāt someone special youād rather give that to? I mean, Iām just the weird girl from the bar, right?ā Sophia teased, a smirk playing at the corners of her lips.

Andy made a face at the thought of upending her routine.Ā āDonāt get me wrong, Iād love to exist during the day like everyone else but itās not practical for me to go back and forth. I know some people who do it and thatās crazy to me. Iād never figure out a sleep schedule.ā Glad to be done with her residency for a few years now, Andy could still remember the endless hours and grueling schedules. She took another sip of her coffee before reaching for the little bowl with sugar packets, emptying half of a brown sugar one into her drink and watching the crystals dissolve as Sophia spoke.Ā
āI know how that feels. Believe me.ā When sheād moved to California with her mom, sheād been homesick for New York, and then when she went to college on the east coast, sheād missed California and her mom. And now that she was back on the west coast, she felt that familiar pull east.Ā āI feel like thereās always parts of home that pull you in its direction, you know?ā She gave the other woman a reassuring smile,Ā āit gets better. And the fitting in thing āā I dunno. Always felt a bit overrated.āĀ
āHey, I get it, you donāt owe me an explanation for sure. Iām just glad weāre actually getting to see each other, and to spend some time together.ā Nodding, Sophia listened as Andy continued speaking.Ā āOh, yeah, no, thatās totally insane, no reason for that at all. I, for one, value my sleep far too much. I know youāre the same. Sophia watched as the other woman emptied the sugar into her coffee cup, taking a quick glance out the window to her right. Knowing she had a friend who could relate helped, though it didnāt work to completely dissolve her feelings of homesickness.Ā āYeah, youāre right about that. Itās just strange, you know? I moved out here to get away from all that. To see what else there is, outside of living in a small, southern town where all that matters is how you look and what your last name is. I just...Wanted to be able to breathe. But sometimes I wonder if here is really any different.ā Sighing, Sophia did her best to keep her composure. After all this time, her motherās voice still spoke to her from the back of her mind. A lady never cries in public. Stop those tears, tilt that chin, and remember that you are fine, just fine.Ā āA quality I admire about you, Andy. I donāt know why Iāve spent my life so desperate to fit in. I think about it sometimes, but...Maybe thatās something else to explore. To think about. Maybe it has something to do with how I was raised.ā Cocking an eyebrow, Sophia offered the other woman a quick smirk before shaking her head.Ā āBut, enough of the sad shit. How are things over at the hospital?ā She asked, reaching for her water glass.Ā

āThe pleasure of speaking,ā Cliff repeated with a smirk. Of course, with his luck, heād be seated next to someone who didnātĀ get it, let alone who was actually there. He didnāt actually know if that was a good thing or not, but it definitely wasnāt what he was expecting.Ā āWhy do you talk like that? Like youāre some kind of princess or at a really important job interview. Weāre at a bar in the middle of a small ass town, for Christās sake,ā Cliff said, letting out a laugh before tilting the neck of his beer in her direction.Ā āNameās Cliff. Cliff Kilman,ā he replied, following the way she introduced herself before shrugging.Ā āI take it you havenāt been here in Charming long then. Why does this town have the pleasure of your presence?ā
Raising her eyebrows, Sophia tilted her head slightly, a smirk making its way across her face.Ā āI said what I said, yes.ā She replied, crossing her arms across her chest as she leaned back in her chair.Ā āIām no princess, and this certainly isnāt a job interview. My Mama raised me to be as polite as possible, especially until youāre aware of who it is youāre speaking to. For all I know, youāre the owner of this establishment. Or the mayor, Though, judging by your response Iāll take a gander and say neither of those apply in this situation. Make no mistake, though. I may speak formally, but that doesnāt mean that canāt change. Quickly.ā Smiling, her eyes fell to the beer the man was holding before reconnecting with his own gaze.Ā āPleasure to meet you, Cliff. No, I havenāt, youāre correct.ā Despite feeling uncertain as to whether or not she should be offended, Sophia couldnāt help but to chuckle when her own verbiage was mirrored.Ā āWork, really. I filled the open Veterinary Technician position at Paws and Claws. Outside of that...I donāt know. I suppose it was just...High time for a change. Iām not generally one to make assumptions, but Iām willing to bet youāve been around Charming for a while. Are you from here?ā
gunnerhqsĀ·:
The man rubbed a hand against his forehead, turning to meet the face behind the voice, looking her up and down before returning to look at the spot in front of him. He didnāt particularly know why feeling someoneās eyes on him had annoyed him so much, but he knew that it was probably because he usually associated it with someone trying to start a fight with him.Ā āPeople make mistakes, Iām sure it wonāt happen,ā he replied, summoning the bartender so he could order another drink.Ā āYou want one? On me?āĀ
āWell, I appreciate the understanding.ā Sophia replied, shaking her head slightly as she brought a palm up to rest on her forehead. At the offer of another drink, she looked up, a small smile playing at the corner of her lips.Ā āThatās very generous of you to offer. Sure, beer is fine. Iāve never been one for the hard stuff.ā Shifting a bit, she turned more towards the man.Ā āIām Sophia Prescott, Iām fairly new in town. I donāt believe Iāve seen you around. Whatās your name?ā
andyruizĀ·:
Andy took another bite of her pancakes before setting her fork down on the ceramic plate as she chewed. Sheād had some good pancakes before, been to some good diners too, but even she had to admit these were some of the best sheād had. Taking a sip of her coffee (decaf, because she wasnāt crazy), Andy waved off the question with a laugh.Ā āIām on nights for the next month so Iād rather not mess up my schedule, you know? By going to bed now and having to be up tomorrow night.ā She grabbed one of the strawberries from the side of her plate, biting into.Ā āIām glad you could make it but alsoā¦I could ask you the same question, Soph. Any reason youāre kicking it at midnight?ā
Despite the hour, Sophia was grateful to have the company of her friend. Due t their inverted schedules, she and Andy didnāt get many chances to see each other. Smiling, she took a sip of her water as the woman across from her explained.Ā āThat makes sense. Messing up a routine sucks, and I know how hard it is to get back into that schedule. Overnights are tough anyway.ā She sighed, remembering her times working overnights at her previous animal hospital.Ā āI feel you.ā Hearing Andy return the question shouldāve been expected, though it wasnāt necessarily one Sophia had planned on discussing in-depth. Shrugging, she pushed the remnants of her meal around the plate with her fork.Ā āNo real reason, I guess. Maybe Iām just a little homesick. I donāt know...ā Sighing, she brought her fist up to rest under her chin.Ā āDonāt get me wrong, itās great here. And Iām glad I did this. Moved out on my own, you know? But...Sometimes, I donāt get the sense Iām fitting very well.ā Sophia admitted.Ā
nikolas-reignerĀ·:
Nik nods and laughs softly.Ā āYeah, nice little adrenaline rush before your casual peruse.ā He sighs and rolls his eyes at the sight, watching people trying to pry the women apart.Ā āSorry about this. Maybe I should install sprinklers or something. Hose people down out here when things get out of hand.ā A smile and a turn of his head as he seriously considers it.Ā āI wonder if thatās legalā¦ā He thinks to himself out loud.Ā āDid you know what you were getting or are you just going to have a look around? If you know I can at least check inventory on my phone if you donāt want to finish the lovely show here.ā NIk points passively at the crowd.Ā āI know itās kind of early so this might not have been penciled into your schedule. Personally havenāt even had my coffee yet,ā he sighs.
āOh, definitely. Usually I prefer my adrenaline rushes to come from things like roller coasters, but hey, beggars canāt be choosers I guess.ā Smiling, Sophia shifted her weight, placing the bags she was carrying carefully onto the sidewalk next to her.Ā āNo need to apologize. Iām guessing you didnāt orchestrate this. You know,ā Sophia said,Ā āAt the clinic we keep an air horn on hand in case of dog fights. Just set that baby off one good time, and it startles the dogs into stopping. Maybe thatās would work here, too. And, Iām pretty positive thatād be cheaper than sprinkler installation.ā She joked.Ā āOh, I was just coming to browse, really. Iām fairly new in town myself, and havenāt had a chance to really check everything out yet. It is pretty early but, I donāt mind. I guess this is just another charming fixture of...Well, Charming. If youāre in need of coffee, I wouldnāt mind to run down the street and grab some. I could use a chai tea myself.ā
genesisporterĀ·:
āi did get that feeling that you are more understanding,ā she said after a moment,ā and thank god i am not alone with my weird habits.ā genesis let out a small laugh and shrugged,ā we are on the same page with that too.ā she knew that most people would want to avoid going to the ER if they could help it. she was shrugging as she glanced towards the wine on the shelves before glancing back at her,ā i suppose i do but they donāt know that i used to sneak some of their booze.ā it seemed that they grew up in rather different households. she was leaning back against the cart after they shook hands. she put on a slight smile and nodded,ā youāre welcome,ā she said after a moment, taking her hand back,ā it is different here.ā she wasnāt surprised at the question but she was shaking her head,ā i was born here, didnāt grow up but i moved back about seven years ago?ā sometimes it felt like longer if you asked her.Ā
āGlad to know I give off that vibe, then.ā Sophia beamed.Ā āOh, no, definitely not. Itās funny, we walk around so concerned about other people thinking weāre strange or weird when the reality is, with so many other people on the planet...Well, I guess thatās just to say weāre more alike than we think.ā Dipping her head, Sophia cleared her throat and tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear. At hearing Genesis admit to sneaking some of her parentsā alcohol, Sophiaās eyebrows shot up.Ā āWow! Iāll tell you, even if there would have been alcohol in my house, Iām not sure I would have ever been brave enough to try any of it. Then again, my Mom had me convinced booze of any kind was Satanās juice...I just mean, that was definitely brave of you. And, you were obviously good at the sneaking game if they still donāt know.ā A slight blush made its way across Sophiaās cheeks as she realized she was rambling. She was grateful when the other woman provided an answer to her previous question, something she held onto to try and dig herself out of the hole sheād talked herself into.Ā āSo you moved away, then back huh? Mind if I ask where you moved to? I donāt mean to pry, I just...I guess I havenāt really had the chance to talk to too many people. Human connection, and all that.ā Sophia laughed.Ā

1.)Ā whatās your museās favorite album of all time / favorite artist? Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā -Sophia couldnāt pick a favorite album if she tried, though her favorite artist is JanelleĀ MonĆ”e.Ā
12.)Ā do they prefer sleeping alone or with someone else? Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā -Really it depends on her mood, she doesnāt mindĀ sleeping alone, necessarily. Though, it has been quite some time since she shared a bed with anyone, and would greatly enjoy that at this point.Ā
22.)Ā do they have a fear they want to conquer, but havenāt yet? Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā -Sheās in the process of conquering her fear currently. Having been under her familyās thumb for so long, she was afraid to go out on her own, despite her desire to explore. However, in moving to Charming sheās overcoming that fear, though that homesickness does still get to her sometimes.Ā
32.)Ā do they critique others easily? do they judge from afar? Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā -No, Sophia does neither of those things. Despite the stereotypes surrounding where and how she was raised, she does her absolute best not to pass judgement. She prefers others not do it to her, and therefore understands it is inappropriate to do it to others.Ā
favorite season and why?
Most definitely Spring. Everything is just...Fresh. New. I love seeing all the flowers beginning to bloom. Nature changing is gorgeous, if you ask me. And, the Spring months are the perfect temperatures. Not too hot, not too cold. Thatās super important.Ā

Looking up, Ana immediately recognized the face and flashed the other woman a warm smile.Ā āHey, nice to see you again too!ā, she patted Lokiās back, making him sit.Ā āIāve been doing well, managed to get more sleep now. And you? Oh, Iām just browsing and buy him a new toy, again for the third time this month. What about you? Do you have a dog as well?ā
Sophia returned Anaās smile, stepping towards her as she reached her hand out for Loki to sniff, giving him a pat on the head once heād licked her palm.Ā āGood! Thatās great to hear! Iāve been doing alright, just really trying to...Get myself on track, I guess. Even though Iāve been here for three months, Iām realizing I still donāt know many people. Iām trying to, you know, do the branching out thing.ā She shrugged with a laugh.Ā āOh gosh, sounds like someoneās a chewer. Makes sense, though. How old is he? Iād be happy to make a couple of recommendations, if youād like?ā Sophia offered, turning to scan the shelves of toys before her.Ā āMe? Oh, I donāt. Well, not here. Iām looking to change that, though, I-ā Gesturing to her scrubs, she brought her eyes back up to meet Anaās.Ā āI actually work here. Iām the Veterinary Technician!ā

Gunner picked his drink up from the bar, taking a sip as he cast his eyes to the countertop. It had been a long day, sometimes he needed a drink, in fact, most days he needed a drink. The man hated being alone, but he also hated being around loads of people, so travelling to a bar to sit on his own seemed like the only option. Though, it did often end up with him picking a fight with whomever he thought deserved it that night.Ā
There was a clink as Gunner placed his empty glass down on the counter, raising his head again and feeling eyes set upon him.Ā āHave you got a problem or can you not find anything else to look at?ā he commented, turning his head as he finished his question.Ā
To say that Sophia had been struggling was an understatement, though she was doing her best to maintain appearances. Still, she couldnāt help but to feel a bit displaced, as though she were still trying to find her footing in town. Truth be told, sheād been looking for a place to just...Relax. Get out of her own mind. Sliding onto a bar stool, she ordered a beer, her head turning on a swivel as she took in her surroundings. Though, focusing was proving difficult, and she hadnāt realized sheād appeared to have been staring at a man several feet away. Sophia jumped when he spoke, shaking her head slowly as she was pulled from inside her own head.Ā āWhat? Oh, Iām...Sorry. I didnāt mean to stare, honestly. Just...Lost in thought. My bad.ā Dropping her head, she felt a blush creeping up her cheeks, hoping she hadnāt offended the other too badly.Ā āIt...Wonāt happen again.ā

āand here i thought that no one would get that,ā said genesis with a small laugh. she was tilting her head at her response about a keg. it was not the reaction she expected but she didnāt mind it. she could only shrug, her lips curving into a slight smile,ā oh i know where i can get one but i donāt want to land in the emergency room.ā her own gaze went towards the shelves that were incredibly well stocked. she was glancing over at her and shrugged,ā i grew up in a house with parents who only drank wine,ā she admitted,ā but iām more of a jack and coke girl most of the time.ā she was glancing towards the bottle in her cart before looking up,ā it is kind of a whole new world.ā she went to slide her hand into the otherās and nodded,ā nice to meet you sophie,ā she said after a second,ā iām genesis and i guess welcome to charming? what do you think of it so far?āĀ
āUnderstandable. But, Iāve heard Iām generally pretty good at getting things. It helps that itās something I do myself. You arenāt alone there.ā She laughed, though her eyebrows furrowed at the last half of her response.Ā āThe emergency room? No, Iād say thatās something to avoid when at all possible. Unless youāre into that sort of thing. In which case...Carry on, I suppose.ā Sophia listened as the woman spoke, her lips forming a soft smile as she learned a bit more about the other.Ā āOh wow. I guess it makes sense youād know what youāre doing, then. I think my mama mightāve wholly passed out if my father or anyone else tried to bring alcohol into her home- no matter what it was.ā Memories came flooding over her, and for a moment Sophia thought tears might well in her eyes. Swallowing thickly, she managed to stave them off. Shaking Genesisā hand, Sophie smiled warmly.Ā āItās a pleasure. Thanks for that, I appreciate it. So far? Itās great, if you ask me. I really enjoy the whole aesthetic of the place. My boss is easygoing, too, so thatās a bonus. Have you lived here all your life?ā
