this also ties into the idea that Farouk assumed the “father figure/parasite” role for David after he possessed him. in Chapter 2, we see David’s father reading the book to a younger David, but we never see his face. Farouk took the memory from David and inserted himself.

Farouk aided in it too. in this shot, you can see the outline of the Devil With the Yellow Eyes interposed with David, to create the terrifying image that terrified Gabrielle and sent her into catatonia/death.
