The Song of the Abyss

Name: Prince Cassius Elavore

Cassius Elavore has been told his whole life who he is and who he will be. His father taught him that the only way to hold onto power is with an iron fist, and Cassius took that to heart. On a routine parade in Lighton, when the king is threatened, Cassius kills the young boy who threw the knife. He didn’t think there would be any consequences, for who could stand against the Eagles of Elavore?

He was wrong.

Years later, while touring the different Universities, Cassius is placed in the same room as one Niric Roan: a commoner who doesn’t seem to understand the hierarchy of Parilos. This peasant argues with the Prince, threatens him, and even pulls a blade on him on multiple occasions.

 All of this leaves Cassius with one question: What did Cassius do to earn this commoner’s wrath?

Name: Konnor Serin

Konnor Serin was born to a nice family, in a nice part of Lighton. He was raised to be a well-mannered young man. He exceeded all expectations and began to learn math from a young age. For all intents and purposes, Konnor Serin was a nice boy.

Was.

When he was 6 years old, his parents went into debt, and the King’s tax collectors threw them in prison and threw Kon into Madam Malloria’s Orphanage. When the plague hit that year, his parents were among the first to go. And so, because of the King, Kon lost his family.

At the orphanage, however, he met Niric Roan, who was two years his senior and already vastly successful at picking everything from pockets to locks. Kon idolized Niric, and soon was seen as the older boy’s younger brother. When Niric left to join a gang, Kon went with him. With his golden hair and charming smile, Kon was perfect for distracting all the good intention marks in the city. Together, with Niric’s planning, the brothers brought in some of the biggest hauls their gang, the Pox, had ever seen.

Kon never forgot, however, how the King caused his family’s death. And so, on one fateful day, when the King decided to visit Lighton for the first time in a decade, Kon tried his hand at a plan. The King was going to be ruined. And no one, not even Niric, would stop him.

Summary: Niric Roan is a thief, born and raised in Lighton, City of Thieves. Living on stolen bread and clueless marks, he’s given most of what he scavenged to his younger brother. But when his brother is killed by the King’s ruthless son during a parade, Niric sets out for Parilos’ leading University: The Nexus. Armed with a sharp mind and a sharper blade, he begins to learn the only thing that can satisfy his thirst for vengeance: Magic.

Surrounded on all sides by politics, death and forbidden secrets, Niric must maintain both his studies and his life. But his professors aren’t the only ones whose eye he’s caught.

The King wants Niric’s loyalty.

Niric wants the King dead.

Revolution is coming.
