don't mind me just laying down some thoughts about a couple of things i'm pretty sure are gonna happen/a general idea of how s2 is gonna go. MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR spoilers for the book (which might translate to the show) below the fold.
there are four super iconic scenes in dean and allie's book that haven't happened yet:
they fuck outside malone's bc allie gets jealous and dean gets jealous
allie gets called a slut and cries and asks for dean
beau. i am not saying anymore than that :|
dean missing allie's performance and that fuckshow.
here's what we know about s2:
s1 was interesting bc they actually didn't follow the third book event for event the way they did for garrett and hannah, which makes sense. but i think they've still set up everything necessary to still hit the above iconic scenes.
i think they're going to be somewhat estranged at the start of s2. and probly avoidant. allie is going to be dealing with extreme guilt and actually feeling like a slut. idk what dean's emotional arc through s2 is going to be? maybe learning to rely on/trusting other ppl?
dean is going to have to work with hunter, and it's going to be a fucking nightmare bc he's jealous. certainly bc of w/e happened bw hunter and summer, but i think a huge amount of his jealousy is gonna be due to the fact that he's been with allie ~in the biblical sense~.
while they're estranged and dean is jealous as hell but still in love, and allie is also still in love, (this is gonna follow the book) hannah's going to invite allie to malone's with the team to celebrate, and allie is gonna not-subtly ask what everybody else on the team—dean ahem—is doing there, and hannah is gonna say dean is getting his face sucked off.
so allie gets jealous as hell and etc. etc. and they're going to fuck in the back alley bc they can't keep their hands off each other, as has been established. i think it's going to reinforce allie feeling like she's a slut, and of course it's gonna fuck with dean's head bc even tho he never wants to get hurt again, he can't get over allie no matter how much he tries. they're gonna avoid each other still, i don't think they're gonna get back to fucking.
in the midst of allie's newfangled and increasing insecurity, sean is going to find out. he's gonna be a little weenie and that showdown is going to happen, and that's when allie is going to tell hannah to call dean even tho they're estranged. i think that's when everything will get fixed. (i am looking forward to this part so much, i genuinely cannot imagine the writers changing this part bc it's truly so so so sos o iconic 🥺)
and then the rest of their portion of s2 will follow the book. OMFG I FORGOT THE WHOLE "I LOVE YOU SCENE" AAAAAAHHHHH OMG OMG LOSING IT and i guarantee when they finally get their shit together, they're gonna have a whole montage of their marathon sex like they did for hannah and garrett. i guarantee. i GUARANTEE. LMFAO it's going to be glorious, bc garrett and hannah always kept it in the bed but i GUARANTEE dean and allie are going to fuck every-fucking-where, every fucking surface, lmfao these clowns 🤦♀️ and, per the book, families will be met, beau is gonna happen and introduce conflict #2, then it gets resolved.
i think while allie and dean are playing out the A-story, the B-story for grace and logan is going to be them meeting and sleeping together. i think the season is going to end with logan fucking up his situation with grace, and summer starts. then s3 will start with the new semester, grace being a sophomore, and logan being a senior.
EDIT TO ADD: ONFG WAIT MAYBE THE SEASON IS GONNA START RIGHT WHERE S1 LEFT OFF AND DEAN IS GOING TO CONFRONT ALLIE RIGHT IN FRONT OF EVERYBODY AND JULES IS RECORDING IT AND POSTS IT AND THAT'S HOW SEAN FINDS OUT AND ALLIE AND DEAN ARE ESTRANGED BUT SEAN CONFRONTS ALLIE AND wait actually hm idk. IDK ANYMORE!!!! kinda takes the punch out of allie asking for dean and hannah being confused as hell when sean verbally attacks her
EDITED AGAIN: OMFG WAIT WHAT IF HE'S FORCED TO COACH HUNTER AND HE REALIZES HE'S GOOD AT COACHING AND LIKES IT EVEN bc it seems like the hurricanes are logan's storyline now, so i don't think it's gonna go to dean. which makes me sad tbh.

I JUST DUNNO ANYMORE. god how am i supposed to survive an entire year 🥲 like maybe they've decided both end-season malone scenes cover their jealousy arcs. HOW ARE THEY GONNA DO THIS?? are they gonna make dean and allie's plot points entirely different?? i can't imagine??????? idk????????
