I COULD BE A BETTER SISTER BY....." Assalamu alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatu my dear sisters. I'd like to open a conversation with all of you, something that is weighing heavily on my chest. Today, on Facebook, I came across a sister that was giving clothing away because she has left Islam to go back to Christianity. This is the THIRD sister, TODAY, that I have learned about that has left Islam. Being curious I went to her page to look. Turns out, she was so sick and tired and hurt and dissapointed by the way other sisters have treated her. Subhan Allah this is the same reason another sister left. Now I'm not talking about oh, she hurt my feelings I don't like her, I'm leaving Islam. I'm talking about sisters degrating, severely back biting and shaming, sisters with a sense of superiority be a use of their cultural/financial status. A lot of the times, but not exclusively, revert sisters bear the brunt of this demented idea of "sisterhood". Most times sisters are made to feel like they aren't "good" enough to even be a part of this sick twisted clique under the guise of sisterhood like it's a VIP club. Many will say, oh they are coming to Islam for the wrong reasons if a few mean sisters can "force" them to leave this beautiful religion. While there's some truth to this statement, it passes any blame on us off to the sister who has felt mistreated and abused enough to leave. We as an Ummah MUST take responsibility for our fellow sisters and brothers. Many times, well meaning muslims will tell a person, out of hope and excitement, that they can basically make up their own rules and practice Islam however they wish following their nafs, as long as they are Muslim. People don't understand that they are accountable for this. So everytime that sister or brother commits zina, or drinks alcohol, or dresses in a manner very much not islamic, they bear some of that sin. Meanwhile afterwards, she is left feeling alone and judged for not practicing Islam according to the Qur'an and Sunnah, with no one wanting to be "bothered" with her to politely and respectfully teach her the correct way. What I would like us to do, is think of ways we could be a BETTER sister to those in need. Give all of us your ideas. Especially for reverts who many times have left everything and everyone they know behind, support and a POSITIVE AND HEALTHY SISTERHOOD is so so important. This is not a "let's expose our sins together" task. It's simply stating things we need to work ôn. Please share with: "I could be a better sister by" then fill in the blank. I will go first. I could be a better sister by calling to check up on my sisters or visiting them, especially when I know they are lonely or sad. May Allah guide us and forgive us all. Ameen.

Whenever there is compassion in something, it adorns it, and whenever it is removed from something it disgraces it."
