My Sonic The Hedgehog Headcanons.
These completely come from my own imagination. I have not watched any of the movies or seen much of him in any of the games. All I know is he's a "cocky speedster," and built my thoughts off that.
He’s extremely lengthy, rangy, gangly, whatever you want to call it. There’s a pretty strong correlation between leg length and top speed while running, and I feel that his classic game design (Sonic 1-3) goes a bit wrong here. His legs should be really long in relation to the rest of him. Other characters should notice this too. And, because he is confident, he will show off his legs when flirting.
2. His reaction times are lightning quick. To move quickly, someone’s nervous system needs to contract all of their muscles in record time. A by-product of this is extremely quick reactions.
3. He gets tired quickly. To explain why, let’s discuss muscles.
- There are 3 types: super-fast, intermediate fast, and slow. Sonic would need a lot of the first type - and some of the second - to run as fast as he does, which leaves almost no room for the third type. This means that, although Sonic would have a ton of speed, he would also tire out quickly if relentlessly pursued, as his long-term endurance would be poor.
4. He can throw a very hard punch. Think of that arm speed! But again, he would tire out quickly in a long fight, so would mostly rely on quick K.Os to beat opponents - or using his speed as a get out of jail card for a few seconds if he needs to escape.
5. He has a great sense of balance - you would need to if you could run that fast!
6. Although spin-dashing protects him from impact, it hurts his head and gives his body friction burns, so he uses it sparingly.
7. Because he gets tired quickly, he would need a lot of sleep, especially if he was constantly being forced to use his speed. And he is really not good at getting up in the mornings.
8. He’s a little proud of his speed, but has to admit that vehicles are helpful. (It saves him from getting tired running long distances).
9. Because of his speed and long limbs, he’s a tad injury prone, and has to be careful not to, say, dislocate his shoulder punching, or hurt his knees running. (His arm moves with such speed that this would be a problem, and think of the strain on those knees).
