I watched the original Macross show recently. It is one of Shoji Kawamori‘s early works and already combines the mecha genre with romance, philosophy and music. I was quite surprised how entertaining it was and tbh I saw the prototypes of Hitomi and Van in Minmay and Hikaru. Kawamori seems to enjoy slow burns and love triangles.

(I am saying this because the picture is inspired by official Macross art.)
