People really be out here acting like it was Kimi Antonelli who seduced Toto into doing all this shit for him, but like...I truly believe Toto Wolff doesn't actually give a flying fuck about Kimi or even think he's that special. Not really.
See, I think it's clear that Toto's obsession with Kimi is about proving that he himself is a genius with a magical eye for talent. It's about proving that Toto was right all along for all the decisions he's made.
It's about Toto trying to make up for failing to recognize Max Verstappen's talent way back when and missing out on the driver of a generation and trying to undo that mistake 15+ years later.
Kimi is the chance to hit back at Horner and others. That's literally all he is.
Just look at the radio message after Kimi's first win:
"He's too young. We shouldn't put him in a Mercedes. Put him in a smaller team. He needs the experience. Look at the mistakes he makes.' Here we go, Kimi. Victory."
There's relief there, like this is validating everything Toto has been hoping for. The message isn't even about Kimi. Toto doesn't mention his drive, or anything about the race, or his skills, or congratulate him on a move or decision, nothing. Regardless of how you feel about how Kimi drove in that race, it's still strange that Wolff says nothing at all about it.
It's Kimi's first race win and Toto's message is only about how right he was. That says a lot.
And then, there's the press conference quotes from after that race:
"When things go bad, there are people who come out and say, 'That was a bad decision,' and 'Mercedes took too much risk.' And it was never really harsh criticism because people recognise the talent that he has..."
"But there were many voices within the sport and outside that said, 'That was a mistake to do.' So it's nice to have a little revanche."
It's very interesting that he focused so much on countering the perception that himself and Mercedes made a mistake and doesn't actually say anything of substance. Or anything about Kimi at all, actually.
And I would say that's because none of this is actually about Kimi.
And in another interview:
"Kimi has been a Mercedes driver since he was 11. Ferrari should have done the job six or seven years ago, instead of realizing now that they have a good Italian driver. Of course, they'll do everything to get an Italian driver."
Translation: I am right, I am a genius, I saw him before everyone else, look at how amazing I am.
And then there's the nonsense about Kimi being more educated than other drivers and all the incessant talk about how young he is (because that was the thing about Max). Toto can't do anything about the fact that Kimi is older than Max was when he first won, sure, but he can go for youngest WDC.
And all of that together means that, if Kimi isn't absolutely amazing - not just good, or decent, but completely incredible - after all the limbs Toto's gone out on for him...then everyone will know he made a mistake. Again. And he cannot have that.
And thus, the trash-talking of George. The delayed upgrades. The straight-up sabatoge. The fact that even Damon Hill thinks Mercedes is fucking with George's car.
Because Kimi has to be amazing. Not for himself, or because Toto cares about him, but so that Toto can be a genius with the ability to see the future.
Kimi is just a vessel for Toto's pride and validation, nothing more.
And that's honestly pretty fucked up.
i have to say i am devastated with the way the zc debacle has come to end. there is a very serious conversation to be had about fandom etiquette in media spaces, especially in the media platforms where the people involved might come to learn about the fanfictions written about them.
this time the breach didn't come from a stupid jorunalist who published about fanfiction, or a media admin bringing up the topic with the drivers themselves, it came from you, the readers, pushing it up on every fucking platform i stepped in for the last 4 days. you were in the comments of the video oscar uploaded of him playing in the sim, in the mclaren comments section. their official tiktok, and i have seen so many people talking about it on twitter too. like. i get you love it, but what happened with zc is really scary. i know the f1 drivers have a very, very low chance of seeing this type of content, especially when the fics are locked. but you should have known that the other side of the equation (in zc's case) are people whose job is to be chronically online and they see everything that gets posted to their name.
you should not be talking about fanfic in places where the people involved might see them. and that's it. no exceptions.
i have seen people talking about my own fics out in the wild, and while it doesn't bother me personally, i know i am an outlier, and that probably comes from the fact not many people know and read my fics, because who knows if suddenly all the comments talking about zc these past days were about one of my fics, i too maybe would have freaked out and deleted everything and myself from the internet.
i get that people want to talk about the things that they love, even when they're fics; finding people out in the wild who like the same thing as you is such a joy, i know. but you should learn that there are places to do so. like here tumblr where you know drivers have the least chance to find it, and you could even stumble upon the actual author and become friends with them; or in private discord servers where you share things with your friends.
but these breaches in containment are what have pushed so many authors to abandon writing lately. the zc author isn't the only one who gave up on this hobby, and it's so fucking sad to see.
i hope this serves as a lesson to everyone.
be better.

I'm seeing several very popular f1twt accounts preaching rpf etiquette rn when they post VERY OPENLY AND PUBLICLY about fanfic on their PUBLIC TWT FAN ACCOUNTS !!!!!! you guys are the PROBLEM !!!!
I cant read sebmark smut because everytime they try to dirty talk I remember they have German and Australian accents
in light of the recent developments in the f1 rpf space i just want to add— fandom spaces need gate-keeping to thrive. i’m old enough to remember when authors had to add disclaimers about not owning the source material of certain books in fear of copyright claims, and my friends and i used to hand-write fanfic and pass it back and forth on bus rides to school. capitalism + non-gated social media has always been a threat to thriving fandom culture, and in a way the use of twitter/ig as fandom spaces was always going to result in a version of this debacle, purely because they are not safe.
it’s been devastating to watch an author have to take down their works because their audience couldn’t be trusted to keep their end of a pact that is fundamental to fandom culture, especially when the subjects of said fandom are real people. we gotta do better while there still is a fandom to protect
idk what the deal is lately with the f1 fandom but it’s important to remember that RPF STAYS IN RPF SPACES!!! We get to be weird little freaks because it’s not out in the open! Twitter is not place for that, neither is instagram! We get to participate in this because we have our own platform to do so!!
sometimes f1 online fandom makes me feel the need to like. hit pause zoom out and be like guys, just to be sure, we're still kidding right. like this is still haha funny rpf - what if - sandbox playing right. we do not actually real-life-believe these drivers are sucking and fucking. right

we need more fem sebmark. my thought of the day
i agree with ur post about fandom need to keep rpf in private spaces. and yes mostly its teenagers who are always loud talking about rpf in twitter and tiktok. but u would be surprised to know that there are some grown adults in their 20s or 30s who also do this, but one thing i noticed is they are always new to f1. whether its a teenager or an adult, the ppl who keep talking about rpf in public account are mainly the ones who just started watching f1 in 2023/2024/2025/this year. and sometimes no matter how hard we try to remind them to keep it private, they will just ignore it. one time i saw someone on twitter talking about rpf and i check their account and yes its a teenager so im not surprised. and then i reply to them kindly to talk about it in private because i also love the fic they were talking about but then they and their friend groups start to harass me and say im a fun police eventho istg i reminded them with the nicest words and no ill intent behind it. im happy the fic i love got recognition from other ppl but i know the author doesnt want their fic to be blasted in other platform, especially in public posts, because the author only uses tumblr and not twitter or tiktok. but these ppl keep talking about rpf in twitter and tiktok and its making me crazy, i feel so bad for the author honestly. sometimes i even see artist making fanart referencing a fic and posting it in public account. to be honest, i found out about zero cycle because i saw a tiktok video with fanart of the fic and its so beautiful, im just surprised the artist posted the fanart on tiktok and not on tumblr or other private spaces. but yeah i feel so bad for the author because these ppl are so annoying and loud and now the author is the one who got blamed for it eventho its the readers fault :(
i agree! these are usually people who are not yet experienced with rpf/fandom. its really noticeable in the new f1 community, especially landoscar recently. people don’t respect certain boundaries and unfortunately a lot of fics, now including zero cycle, get taken down.
i feel incredibly sorry for this author. sending death threats over fanfiction is absolutely disgusting and unacceptable.
i think every few years a certain ship/fandom/fic becomes so huge it breaks containment and it becomes a problem within and outside the fandom. it just ends up ruining the fun for everyone.
and fuck everyone who calls you, me, or anyone else the “fun police” for saying rpf shouldn’t be shared on most platforms. i really don’t give a fuck. we can all have fun on here and ao3 and that’s enough.
fics dont need to be blasted everywhere. its just a bad idea overall and does more harm than good.
fandom spaces exist for a good reason! :)
while i can understand why people go to twitter or tiktok to interact with rpf, we have to remember that rpf stands for REAL PERSON FICTION.
any kind of rpf related content (ESPECIALLY explicit) should not be shared on platforms where the people involved (or the people close to them) could possibly see it.
im aware mostly teenagers are doing this. i get that it’s fun and exciting to talk about this with other people, especially on fast paced platforms such as twitter and tiktok.
but not only are we risking the people involved finding out by doing this, we are also risking the authors and artists who are providing us with this content for free!! to take it down and quit.
we can all enjoy and talk about rpf, but for the love of god keep it on tumblr and ao3. we don’t need to drive authors and artists off the internet in the process.
ngl i need everyone to shut the fuck up about the midoffs and zero cycle on twitter PLEASE KEEP RPF ON TUMBLR AND AO3 HOW MANY TIMES DO WE NEED TO SAY THIS
