I've just opened my laptop to the heartbreaking news that the wonderful, beautiful and incomparable @evilgustofwind and all of her art has gone offline.

I really really hope you're doing alright, Rose - your impact on the Formula One fandom and many many people and authors around Tumblr is so profoundly positive. Your art inspired so many people, and while it's a genuine tragedy your fanfiction has gone offline, I'm glad you're putting yourself first and taking time away from all the negativity you must be subjected to currently.

You singlehandedly got me - and I'm sure many other people - into writing their own fanfiction, and for that I honestly cannot thank you enough. The Hohenwerfen Spider continues in your name!

If you haven’t heard, zero cycle has been removed from the internet as well as a life in the sun. Why is this?

Because people were trying to share it with the real people in the story, such as MSCR streamers.

I am so ashamed of my fandom.

I loved zero cycle so, so much. I was going to download a life in the sun to read on a roadtrip. And now I can’t because of the arrogance of so many people.

But this isn’t just about me. It’s not just about zero cycle. It’s not even about agustofwind. This whole ordeal is a reflection of the fandom, and the boundaries we’ve crossed.

There is one rule of RPF.

FANWORKS STAY IN FAN SPACES.

So fuck everyone who’s broken this rule about zero cycle, or really anything.

You’ve taken away a huge part of the fandom, and I will never forgive the arrogance of you people.

I don’t care if I’m being dramatic, but this fanfiction changed my life in one way or another.

I apologize to everyone who loved zero cycle on behalf of the people who got it taken down, especially to @evilgustofwind. I’m sorry that this wonderful fanfiction is gone.

Rose, just in case you come across any of this, I truly hope that you are fine. Take good care of yourself. Know that you didn’t deserve any of this.

any kind of rpf related content (ESPECIALLY explicit) should not be shared on platforms where the people involved (or the people close to them) could possibly see it.

im aware mostly teenagers are doing this. i get that it’s fun and exciting to talk about this with other people, especially on fast paced platforms such as twitter and tiktok.

but not only are we risking the people involved finding out by doing this, we are also risking the authors and artists who are providing us with this content for free!! to take it down and quit.

i think enough posts have been made recounting the entire zero cycle situation, and about how the boundaries of rpf, and more specifically, the boundaries of the author are violated. i think the points about what rpf boundaries should be have already been made, (tldr: keep rpf in fandom spaces) so i wanted to focus on another component of this situation: how disrespectful this is to fandom creatives.

i want to emphasize how valuable and amazing people like rose are to a fandom. talented creatives who dedicate their skills and time for FREE to create art for the fandom, for our enjoyment. when anyone thinks back to their time in any fandom, they can recall consuming fanfic, fanart, or fan edits.

i read almost all of rose's work, most as they were updating. i left long comments after each update, and without fail, they would reply to each one insightfully. if you take a look at their tumblr, they replied to everyone so thoughtfully. they not only provided the fandom their creative work, but also their extra time and care.

they clearly, in every single fic, state that they do NOT want the fic to ever leave fandom circles, to ever have even the potential of coming across anyone involved in the fic. they state that if you are still interested in discussing the fic, they were always open to any questions on their tumblr.

rose set a clear boundary, like many authors have, to just have rpf stay in fandom spaces. rose even provides an additional space for people to discuss the works specifically in her tumblr. and yet people violated their boundaries.

the few tweets that started all of this were by people who i know most likely did not mean it. they were just excited to share and to discuss. but at a certain point, it is also the role of the rest of the fandom, who do know better, to step up and protect the author (as well as protect the subjects of rpf) and their boundaries. it is the role of the fandom to police itself better

in the face of generative ai, human creativity is evermore scarce. there has been an undeniable rise in ai fanfics, for one. undetectable or not, they flood fandom with synthetic slop drowning out human creativity in fandom. and then circumstances like this happen, where fandom disregards the creative's boundaries, disrespects their work, and then it's all gone.
