vancouver pride

vancouver held its annual pride parade celebrating and advocating for the lgbtqia+ community on august 6th. i was grateful I got the opportunity to travel over for pride weekend as well as getting to visit with a close friend of mine while in town. the first time we met was at pride in my hometown many years ago, in fact thinking about it know I can’t remember how many years ago it’s been. we’ve been friends through lots of changes and events in our lives and it’s cool that we got to see each other grow up over the past how ever many years it has been. we are both at different stages of self discovery and on our own separate journeys but I’m happy we crossed paths.

we had went out the night before which was super cool (an expensive). the event took place in a huge open warehouse decorated with lights, plants, a huge stage and a cute bar. we didn’t stay the whole night because the music sounded the same the whole night and we didn’t even know how to dance to it but even despite that the atmosphere and surroundings were so beautiful. we ended up waking up so late the next day that we didn’t watch much of the parade at all. we got some food on our way towards the parade route and then walked with our take out sushi to the festival grounds. it was fricken hot so I’m glad I didn’t stand on pavement watching a 3 hour parade. being from a small town it’s always so overwhelming being in big cities or crowds like you see at vancouver pride. it was overwhelming to feel so connected to a space and group of strangers I had never felt before. being around people who understand and accept you is something very special and I’m so glad I get to be prideful and grateful to be who I am.
