They make this date regularly as part of their recovery journey, and chat about all kinds of things, and how recovery has changed their lives. They also like chatting about their little ones, it's so therapeutic for them! They chat about all sorts of antics they got up to.

Meanwhile the little ones are in the sandbox constructing the dream version of New York and playing a very elaborate game of pretend!

Pete's just chilling because he knows it's safe but the first few times they go to Nod, Sofia is watching her little one literally bouncing between skyscrapers and going: "Pete is this safe?". (She is trying SO hard to be chill about it), and Pete reassures her as they watch a pink fluffy unicorn materialise to gently carry a regressed baby to the ground, which then farts a little rainbow.

and dana always does— find her, that is. she keeps the lights dim but never off, the curtains shut, blocking off the harsher lights of reality. emma doesn't have to be big or make hard decisions or force herself to act in a way she doesn't feel. she doesn't have to speak if she doesn't want to, often finding sentences too difficult to string together. her emotions feel inexplicable, anyways. there's just so much of them. she's just so small.

dana just curls up with her, tugs emma close, rubs slow circles over her back. they'll stay in bed today, drift in and out of naps. dana will feed her snacks when she's hungry, hold her sippie when she's thirsty, keep her wrapped up in constant care and safety. petting and soothing and narrowing their world down to just this, just comfort.
