there was never any money involved at any point in time, the $7B is how much more he would've made if he'd sold his share in facebook before the stock price had plunged instead of after. saying "$7B" makes it sound like entire palettes of crisp $100 bills gradually evaporated from his nine-bedroom penthouse flat atop facebook's solid platinum skyscraper (with him powerlessly looking on and crying and screaming and tearing out his hair before doing some more cocaine to calm himself), when it's actually just a way of explaining that the conversion rate between facebook's stock and the us dollar has shifted in favour of the latter because the recent outage was in favour of the rich assholes who were buying (demanding less) and not the rich fucks who were selling (demanding more)
