FRIENDS.
I'm the worst. This past month and half have been the craziest ever. So as you know I'm doing an emergency medicine fellowship. Plot twist it's split between ED and Critical Care. 6 months and 6 months. I was under the impression it was 6/4 so that news terrified me. First month of ED went well, having responsibility is not something you get used to overnight. I've spent multiple nights already worrying about a patient I discharged praying that they were still okay. But like my mother said, if they were truly sick they will come back. This month I'm in the medical ICU. My last medicine rotation was back in May, so I was a little out of practice. So my first day it was the first of the month, so new residents, new AP I was with, and myself. I had 4 patients that I was expected to round on, finish my entire note, and know everything about in 2 hours. Long story short I got through two. The attending was understanding. Now, I'm quicker and finishing notes well before rounds. If any of you feel overwhelmed in your first week/month it's okay. Nobody was awesome their first day. You'll get there. I'm with anesthesia this week doing airway management in the OR which is an awesome introduction to intubation. Everything is controlled and there's always a CRNA who has my back. I know it will be different in emergent situation but it's great to learn technique. Also nurses are angels sent from heaven and they deserve your love and respect bc my job would be impossible without them. I'll be posting some pearls soon. I hope everyone is doing great!

When you walk out of a patient room and a nurse walks in with protective gear on
I was once in a ptâs room and the nurse put up contact precautions on the door while I was still in the room. The door had a window on it so you could see me inside but she didnât knock or anything. I didnât realize because my back was to the door until I walked out and went to present the pt to my preceptor.
Omg!!!! Happened to me a bunch of times. Iâm probably gonna have a positive tb test or something
ugh that one time when i did the admission on the guy with cryptococcus meningitis and my preceptor (who is a clinical coordinator at my school who i was with on her clinical day) calls me the next day to tell me and says âoh don't worry they don't think we need any prophylactic treatmentâ âoh great!âÂ

when the cervix pops into view
do u ever feel like youâve accidentally tricked certain people into thinking you are smarter and have more potential than you actually do and do you ever think about how disappointed theyâll be when you inevitably crash and burn
