Thanks @capriedcorn for commenting this in this post actually because I've been thinking a lot about the balance of hijack dynamics and I've been feeling the need to address it. Basically just me rambling about my thoughts lol

Like yes that's the thing with Jack ships is that it could get iffy really easily because Jack stopped physically aging since his death.

I usually set those Jack time traveling aus into hiccup's rtte timeline in my mind so they could physically match in age. Maybe in that kind of au Jack also behaviourally acts like how he was before his death after getting his memories back in rotg and being perceived as his physical age at Berk.

In non-canon compliant aus(modern au, medieval fantasy au, etc where there's no need for age gaps at all) I think they should be closely around the same age. If it's still an immortal x mortal au(god/fae/dragon x mortal), they should absolutely look like adults.

Otherwise, in fancontent that complies to Jack's canon age with an adult Hiccup, I think it's fine as long as the fanworks actually show that Jack acts and behaves like a 300 year old adult despite being a fun loving and trouble making guy🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ especially when Hiccup would acknowledge it yk

Just writing my thoughts down on this because I'm very careful with them and what kind of fancontent I consume of them I also HATE when people infantilize either of them OR ANY OF THE SHIPS I SHIP FOR THAT MATTER FR but yes this thing should be addressed. I think about how they'd act in different situations and aus a lot. God can you guys even understand what I'm saying here these might feel contradictory as shit to each other.

It's all fun and games until I realized I created a whole ass document about a jack frost folktale origin for my AU..

And explained why jack frost isn't called jokul frosti back then, cuz "jokul" and "frosti" are sons or different names of the same son of the Norse wind god kari in the prose edda, which leads to a dead end for the "jokul frosti" theory.

Jack's actual first appearance was in a pamphlet called "Round about our Coal Fire" back in the 1730s, which means he was probably well known way back in the 17th century

(there's also the Kalevala, an epic poem about Finnish Folklore and in the translated version, jack frost's name can be found in a chapter called "the frost fiend")

That (kinda) makes jack the oldest guardian in the group like in the rotg books if you think about it...

And also the fact that jack isn't only associated with winter but also autumn,there's a whole motif depicting "jack frost painting the autumn leaves" to signify the upcoming autumn season

Which makes him an unseelie fae in European folklore

anyways, i’ve been wanting to make fanart for @planetary-nooo fic “When the Day Met the Night” (pleaseeeee go check it out if you haven’t) but i wasn’t able to when i first read it bc i wasn’t really able to draw furies and considering it’s like a major part of the fic i had to wait till i was able to draw their dragons at least 😭

this fic was one of my first few hijack fics when i started getting into the fandom last year and it’s genuinely one of my favorites, i think about it at least once a day i love it sm 🧎‍➡️
