I think there's no doubt that the concept of both MVs was inspired by "The Little Prince", maybe it is a romantic adaptation of the book. The Prince leaves his planet with a mission and ends up being friends with the Pilot/Narrator. Through his way before getting to Earth, the Prince lives new experiences and learns lessons in different planets and the Pilot also teaches him a few things. Taeyeon is from another Constellation and decides to explore Earth (her mission), meets Dean and also learns and lives new things, with and without Dean, with the difference that she does it while in Earth only. As the book ends, when the Little Prince needs to go back to his planet, the Snake shows up offering a little help to make him go back home, the Little Prince takes the offer and the Snake bites him. When the Prince is saying goodbye to his friend, the Pilot, he tells him that he's going back home and that his friend don't need to worry about his body because it is like a shell (I know he doesn't say it with these exact words, but it goes a little like this + I'm too lazy to look for it in the actual book, sorry). In Why, Taeyeon concludes her mission (exploring Earth, having fun, discovering stuff, making friends, falling in love and another adventures) after being called back home (that "Miss Me" message that shows up in both MVs) and goes back home, leaving the polaroids. Just as the Little Prince didn't needed his body, Taeyeon doesn't need the polaroids, because she has lived everything the pictures show and her mind is enough to make her keep the moments and remember them. The Little Prince and Taeyeon's MVs leaves a question that gets us wondering: did they died or went back home? The answer depends on the perspective of who's reading/watching. You might believe they died, you might believe they are home. That reminds me of the Fox's famous quote "what is essential is invisible to the eye". It's all about how you see it.
