you may have noticed that my blog is disorganized and thematically incoherent and my tag game is weaker by the day. this is commentary on the chaos of modern existence

what happened to "cool as fuck grandma" as a character trope. i miss "cool as fuck grandma"

potentially hot take, but i don't think shauna is insecure. throughout the show she's shown to be extremely confident in the decisions she's made (sleeping with jeff & adam, taking up the role of butcher), and she almost never doubts herself, sometimes to the point that she lacks self awareness. i do think she hates the positions she and other people put her in (being a housewife, butchering eventually). however, i don't think that necessarily means she's insecure about how competent she is in doing anything. her inability to make herself happy comes from a more complicated concoction of self-hatred, self-punishment, and trauma imo.

i think it’s just a fine line between insecurity and self-hatred bc they usually come hand in hand to the point where they’re sort of synonymous. but i agree it’s mostly self-hatred over insecurity with shauna esp! she doesn’t seem to waver in her actual decision making, only at people’s responses to it, but then chooses to punish herself for that - which is fueled by self-hatred and anger but not rlly insecurity or she wouldn’t do it in the first place. especially with the jackie situation, she doesn’t seem to regret the argument or what she says to jackie bc she doubles down on it later (and she was kind of right, aside from the mean-ness ofc) but she does regret the results and then her own delusions caused by it. but with her relationship with jackie pre-wilderness, it seems mostly insecurity, in that she doesn’t hate who she is but just hates how different she feels from jackie + that she feels inferior. v interesting post ty!!
