If the aim of human society is happiness, freedom, and prosperity, there are indeed many alternative ways to achieve this without endangering the earth and ourselves, and without leaving behind half or more of humanity.
Wait⌠isnât Canada treaty land?
Yes, but the left only cares about native issues when its politically expedient.
Gotcha. I thought as much but wasnât sure.
Nope! Actually about half of so-called âCanadaâ is completely unceded, including âVancouverâ. Meaning that the Canadian state has no jurisdiction over these sovereign nations, and only holds on to control through military occupation. But as we see in the northwest, and elsewhere across the country, many Indigenous nations are starting to liberate their territories of the colonial state.Â
And of those pre-confederate treaties that where signed, every single one has been broken by the colonizers, which then nullifies them.
Due to losing two groundbreaking court cases, and continually breaking international law (for whatever thatâs worth), the colonizers have been actively engaging in a modern day treaty process that:
many grassroots Natives oppose (âŚ) because itâs 1) a fraudulent process negotiated between government funded and imposed band councils and the provincial and federal governments (meaning these are not treaties between sovereign nations), and 2) it is part of the stateâs long term strategy of legal, political and economic assimilation through which bands will no longer be under the Indian Act and reserve lands are transformed to fee simple property which can be bought, sold or leased like any other property, and 3) it is part of the overall âself-governmentâ policy which ends with bands self-managing their own oppression. ***
Revolutionaries, whether they identify as anarchists or Indigenous militants, are daily in perpetual conflict with the colonial state. We refuse to ever forget the horrors perpetuated by the colonizers or the life that they attempted to erase to build this mechanized existence we find ourselves in. Indigenous rebels have been involved in countless anarchist projects around here, and vise versa. We live with and fight alongside one another, in autonomous communities and on flaming barricades all across this country. If anything, the odd time we have to deescalate hostilities towards the colonial state, say to go to court or deal with some other theft or oppression, is being âpolitically expedientâ, but never the contrary. There isnât a moment that goes by where we forget whose land weâre on, the relationships we have, or the histories here. Please feel free to explain otherwise since you felt so willing to make such a heedless comment.
(A rough view of unceded Indigenous territory.)
Vancouver is unceded coast-salish territory. Literally all of âCanadaâ is unceded & itâs an issue that the radical left in Canada have been fighting to rectify for decades. (Albeit with varying levels of sincerity)
Every inch of this land is stolen and itâs native inhabitants kept to the most undesirable land. (In my home town for the reserve is right next to the septic treatment plant and dump zone, not a nice smelling place in the height of summer.)
The rights of first nations people and decolonization of this land must be of utmost importance to âCanadianâ leftists.
Hahaha his face.. I love it Iâm so glad he doesnât freak out in thunderstorms though
Love this!

I love reading stuff like this.. like, the ruling class is terrified of an uprising right now - imagine how these people would handle an organized revival of the labour movement or a mass movement for a transition to socialism. Theyâre fully aware that workers are the ones with the power to decide the direction the future takes, and that more and more people are realizing how unfair the system is.
The wealthy and powerful are just crossing their fingers and hoping that people will keep accepting the status quo and fighting over scraps, but there doesnât seem to be much confidence that will happen - even by the type of people who generally write leftists off as deluded idealists.

âPsychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behaviour and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong.â
â Terence Mckenna (via machineelves)
The âlibertarianâ adage that âexchange always benefits both partiesâ focuses on the moment at the expense of ignoring the historical context which made that exchange necessary,- ie, all forms of enclosure, the ways in which states are involved in setting up markets for the reasons that they do, and so on.
It also ignores power relations. A boss, vested with greater bargaining ability and privileges, can manipulate and threaten the worker to accept bad conditions. Workers have almost no way to fight this, because theyâre easily replaceable. A worker has more to lose by quitting their job than their boss has to lose. Since capitalism is organized around this relationship, itâs very difficult to escape. Most of this would be true even if capitalism arose peacefully.
âExchange always benefits both partiesâ is only true in a limited way. Having a job means you usually donât die on the street (or maybe you die later as opposed to sooner). And you having a job means the boss has some extra labor to leech off. But if the boss gets more benefits from the exchange than you, or if the exchange actively harms you in some way, this doesnât mean anything. Youâre still being exploited. The relationship isnât reciprocal. Exchange can only truly benefit both parties when thereâs no authority between them. Libertarians are bad at liberty.
Yeah, power relations are included in the historical context that they ignore, but yeah, itâd be good to emphasise those in particular
