Before the procedure:

Any medical care for you that doesn’t need a surplus of equipment is done at home in the medical wing. Nightmare does not feel comfortable with the idea of his lover being anywhere outside of his realm when you are vulnerable. It’s better for you to be wrapped within the magic of his realm, able to be easily transferred to the fuzzy blankets of the atrium, where you can recover surrounded by nature and your family.

He hires someone from one of the worlds he has a hold over to come to the palace and perform the operation. It’s a secretive affair initially—only he, Cross, Horror, and Error know the date and time. Cross understands humans intimately, and was aware of Chara and Frisk’s wisdom teeth removal in multiple timelines. Horror needed to know in advance so he could prepare food you could consume post-procedure.

Error knows because he is too nosy for his own good. The idea of you apparently being knocked out and then cut into by a bunch of other humans to remove teeth that can’t fit into your mouth is simultaneously disturbing and ridiculous. But he insists on being around to make sure they do a proper job of stitching you back together; the last thing he wants is to have to redo all of them later if they fuck up your mouth.

Plus, you might need company when you’re recovering… cotton to dab away the blood and cold compresses to ease the pain. There is no way he’s letting Cross take all the credit for caring for you.

Dust and Killer would both get… unstable… if they knew strangers were going to be allowed to cut into you while you were unconscious. Even if they could watch, chances are as soon as you yelped when they inserted the anesthesia, one of them would launch themselves at the dentist. So Nightmare sends the two out on a little mission for the morning of the procedure.

During the procedure:

Nightmare and Error remain in the room during the surgery in order to ensure it goes smoothly. Nightmare tries not to influence things greatly… though he does use his power to remove some of your anxiety before you are put under.

Error, predictably, absolutely despises the job the dentists do on your first set of stitches, and kicks them out of the room so he can fix up the rest.

Nightmare teases him extensively about it at a later date—Error hates touching most everyone, and especially despises the bizarre textures and fluids of a living beings inner workings. And yet, for you, he’d readily parse his hands through blood if it meant improving your health~

The dentists are eventually allowed back in to clean you up and remove the IV, at which point they are unceremoniously dumped back in their AU (though they are paid handsomely, at your insistence).

Cross and Horror busy themselves by prepping the atrium for your arrival. Fresh vases of lavender and chamomile, water filled with ice, and fur blankets for you to cuddle up in, along with a gorgeous cotton set of pajamas Nightmare ordered in for you.

A good thing, too, because Nightmare is veryyy emotional post operation. He carries you in cradled against his chest and wraps you up under the covers, remaining at your side until your eyes open again. It was just… too close to that incident. As if you might never wake again….

After the procedure:

Horror has loaded the freezer with ice cream to make plenty of milkshakes for you as you recover. There’s also potato’s, eggs, and soups a’plenty for the week.

The part when you’ve woken up is his absolute favourite. He has no idea what you’re on about—random thoughts that suddenly diverge into dream-like mumbles, all while you keep alternating between the four of them, seemingly unable to decide who you want to cuddle up with.

It’s the cutest thing ever for him. You’re so affectionate, even when you’re all high on meds… Horror can’t help ruffling your hair and nuzzling your face.

Cross prepares plenty of light activities to keep you occupied when you’re not napping off the drugs (which seem to have convinced you to exclusively refer to him with Killer’s nicknames… a fact that has him utterly flustered the entire time).

Error pops in and out, depending on when you need him and how nonsensical you’re being with him. Drugs or not, he is not tolerating ridiculous teasing from you.

Nightmare finds your drug-induced state pitiful, and yet endearing—he cannot help his desire to remain at your side while you are like this. It was good to keep you at home; you’re far too vulnerable like this, and there are many who would revel in the death of his Queen.

Dust and Killer arrive late in the evening to a quiet castle. Which is… odd. It’s more odd when Nightmare calls them to his office, and explains that you’re recovering.

Recovering.

From a medical procedure where you were medicated.

By humans.

Dust absolutely flips out, needing to be physically restrained until Nightmare gets him to agree not to show any anger around you. It was the best choice to ensure the procedure went smoothly. You had to get this done, and Dust WOULD have fucked it up by attacking the dentists.

But Dust doesn’t speak to him for a good few days afterwards, even in front of you. He doesn’t want you to be unconscious. Ever again. He doesn’t want you to be loopy, or exhausted, or unable to eat solid foods. He doesn’t want to see IV lines in their home.

Killer just shuts down for a good half hour, sitting quietly on Nightmare’s sofa. It was a logical decision; he hates the thought of people doing anything to hurt you, even if it’s for your health. It just… kinda hurts that Nightmare didn’t even trust him to stay away.

Nightmare ends up settling next to him and nuzzling him, murmuring apologies and praises until he feels better. Killer is precious to him, and of course Nightmare trusts him to always protect you. He brought you to them, after all. But he’s too protective; he wouldn’t have handled your pain well.

Killer ends up forgiving him much sooner, as their bond is significantly stronger. It also helps that Nightmare promises never to leave him out of the loop regarding you again. While Nightmare may be their king, Killer was your first lover.

When Dust and Killer finally get into the room with you, Killer instantly starts a fight by laughing at you and pissing Dust off. He can’t help himself. You’re speaking nonsense, and you’re practically smothered in blankets… you’re so sweet.

Dust finds it creepy as fuck that a physical substance could knock you out and then alter your mind so significantly. He’s grumpy and uncooperative until the high wears off and you can speak in your normal, soothing voice.
