I could really do with a reward or incentive

sometimes i think about how there has always been this dream version of me in my head who knows how to play the piano and can sing in key and charts stars by herself (and w her loved ones too) and reads so many books and studies diligently every day and is top of every academic pursuit and has all these skill-based creative outlets she nourishes constantly and does not have to compromise any of them for the other bc she knows how to budget her time and is not afraid of failure and does not let petty distractions like phone time get in her way. and i'm like oh. i want that really bad. like that truly eclipses everything else in my life

and sometimes i'm derailed by the small things like a fallout w friends or an unkind thing someone may have said to me or social media fomo or instant gratification. but then i remember how my soul aches so badly for knowledge and art that i'm like. it's not worth it to give these momentary things so much weight. i don't want to look back on my deathbed and mourn a girl i never became. and whenever i have a bad day or i'm off track i will look back at this post and remind myself of what truly matters. which is literally this but my brain likes to trick me every time

You do not let somebody tell you what your human existence is for. You do not let another soul on this green earth tell you what your human existence is meant to be. You do not let somebody shame you out of liking something. You do not let somebody shame you out of expressing your joy or your sadness. You do not let somebody shame you out of your authenticity. The whole point while your feet are on this rock in space is to express. It is to feel. It is to be. It is to do. It is to love. And whatever that means to you, is completely yours and nobody in this world should have any say in taking that away from you in any way. That is the one thing you should never allow in your lifetime to be taken from you: The freedom to be yourself.

people will say “they’re only friends” and then show me two people who would crawl through broken glass to hear the other laugh once. two people who have memorized each other’s coffee orders, fears, childhood stories, and emergency contacts. two people who would haunt each other’s houses as ghosts. be serious.

Just an FYI—the original intention of this post was to challenge the way people say only friends, as though friendship is somehow lesser than other forms of love. As if being deeply known, cherished, and chosen by another person could ever be a small thing. Normalize profound platonic love. Some of the most fulfilling, transformative, and enduring relationships we will ever have are friendships. 🫶🏼
