My personal headcanon for Ash Ketchum has always been that regardless of if his dream ever came true he'd never truly stop traveling and learning. Because despite "becoming a pokemon master" being his goal if you actually sit down and watch like Any episode of Pokemon the thing that always holds true is his curiosity and desire to learn everything he possibly can related to pokemon. And he'll try anything to! He did contests and the battle frontier. He'd do those silly little shows with Serena if they'd let him.

So I like to imagine him continuing on in life as this nomad who people don't automatically recognize as anyone important ya know? Just this goofy guy going from place to place always lending a helping hand and hes got a cute lil pikachu on him. And hes often lost somewhere with a friend just exploring the woods to see if he'll find anything cool. Ya know, as hes always been, but older now. And its only once hes drifted once more do you maybe stumble into an article on the pokeweb about him and are like... that guy??

there’s a dedicated ashandpikachuspotter account somewhere on some social media. You tag a photo or search for a term and boom, there’s pics of this guy. this dude. this man. with his pikachu. and it’s thousands of strangers from across the globe coming on line to talk about some stranger that they met briefly and then never saw again. they’ve compiled their stories and their approximate locations and mapped his journey from continent to continent, a long snaking pathway that spans decades and thousands of miles. He’s apparently one of those Kanto kids that the government let just drop out of school. Its working out very well for him.

am i the only one who thinks Hyperspace Lumiose is one of the more terrifying concepts in pokemon? like, i get that they explained what it is, but i don't think they fully DID, y'know?

like, it's a dream. it's consuming the world. it's a liminal hellscape version of reality. the people and pokemon there stop existing once you leave but if you bring them out with you they keep existing. the people in there are barely lucid but wonder if they're dead. an actual dead man approaches you on multiple occasions. everything there both is and isn't real until they step outside or the gate closes. like it's some sort of twisted nightmare occupying a space between Dreams, Unreality, and the Afterlife, and i feel like the implications for such a space are HUGE

I really don't like how they changed Pikachu's "Worried" emotion portrait in Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky, then the 3D PMD games proceeded to use the inferior Explorers version instead of the OG Rescue Team version.

These just have less sauce than the original.

pokemon immunity is kinda funny sometimes like. some of it makes sense, right? like yeah a flying bird doesn't care if the ground is shaking, a ghost doesn't care if you punch it, you can't poison metal. but like... fairy being immune to dragon type. like what does that look like. like physical dragon type moves are just... biting/scratching/whacking you but in a Draconic Way. like if my garchomp uses scratch on a clefable then bang ouch thats some damage. but if it uses Dragon Claw, with the same claw, just.... Draconically. absolutely nothing. fascinating

I got a Mesprit Sitting Cuties plush recently and when I opened the parcel I lowkey regretted buying it, not for any normal reason, but because my OTHER Mesprit plush was a childhood favourite toy that I got when I was 8, long before I even started playing Pokémon.

And I loved her so much that I took her to primary school several times and took her on adventures in the playground and I invented so much lore about her. And I even made up my own joke where I would hold up a Pritt glue stick in one hand and Mesprit in the other and Isay "Don't Mess with Mess Pritt!" and it was so dumb but to me it was the funniest thing ever.

I was just so invested in researching her on the internet when I finally did get into Pokémon and I lost my shit when I played Pokémon Pearl for the first time and MESPRIT WAS THERE!!!! And I spent MONTHS unsuccessfully searching for her and my heart would skip a beat whenever I heard the opening notes of her battle theme whenever I was walking in the tall grass. She was like my Moby Dick. Finally caught her in White 2 where she's a static encounter instead of a roaming Pokémon and I was cackling because she couldn't run away this time.

And then Legends Arceus revealed that Lake Verity was a volcanic lake and it made me laugh my ass off because it reminded me of a childhood misconception that Mesprit was a "Fire Element Pokémon" because on the Pokémon Wiki there was a subheading that read "Mesprit in the Manga" that I misread as "Mesprit in the Magma."

All this to say, the evening of when I recieved the new Mesprit plush (and after a tin of strawberry daquiri) my brain flashed back to Lotso's backstory in Toy Story 3 where he became evil after his owner lost him and replaced him with another Lotso Bear and he thought she didn't love him anymore and I genuinely started crying because it felt like I was replacing Mesprit too.

Of course now that I'm not slightly tipsy I can understand that the two plushies can coexist and just because I got a new Mesprit, doesn't mean all those memories are erased.

I'm also realising how funny it is that the Being of Emotion is making me feel, well, emotional. GIRL, STOP. YOU DID THIS TO ME
