My mom has a hatterene named Flop (cuz apparently she'd flop on the floor with her hair loose when she was a hattrem) I've known since I was little, she would swipe at me when I was littler, but never hard enough to actually hurt, just little batting motions, but she's much less aggressive nowadays as well, lets me comb and brush her hair, since I've heard that they're usually much more aggressive it makes me wonder what makes her any different, is it her upbringing? could she be a less sensitive breed or something? is that a thing? any theories?
Yes, actually! Environment and familial traits do influence behavior.
There are very few Hatterenes that live with humans, and the majority of those were raised by said humans. So they are much more desensitized and more restrained than wild Hatterenes, who are not shy about what bothers them. And Hattrems tend to be the much more aggressive of the three evolutions in their line. It’s like a teenager stage for them where they won’t hide like Hatennas but can’t deter people with headaches like Hatterenes, so they just pummel you.
The level of aggressiveness can depend on the individual as it can depend on their personalities and they can inherit personality traits from parents. Some Hatterenes are more forgiving while others have no patience at all.
Flop is such an adorable name 🥰
