Here’s my part of There Is No Name from Stories From Styx! It was such a joy working on this, and gosh, drawing Demeter’s angry expression made my own face constantly look angry for a while too. >.<

i'm gonna be careful not to name any names here because I don't want to start a hate train and I'm looking at all of this as neutral as possible and also please please please don't think of this like a call-out post or anything, it's not! I still think you can be a fan of rnf and support their work, this is just why I'm chosing to take a break from doing so!

Okay now where do I even start. Ada got roasted so hard by annabel she got out of her spectre and is not in the best mental state AT ALL. Morella tries to come and help her but Ada pushes her away(literally).

Now, Morella WANTS to help Ada but because of how Ada is acting right now she can’t so she ends up opting to give Ada some space and leaves her by herself but you can TELL she doesn’t want to leave Ada alone. However, she can’t do anything about it so she reluctantly follows Ms Poppet to get merits.

Now, this is where Montresor comes in and scoops Ada up from the situation and gets into a relationship with her despite him LITERALLY degrading her like countless episodes ago.

Okay so now we have a summary of what has happened let’s talk about it and why I think montrada is actually a really good plot device for Morella and Ada’s characters and all the other characters in clusterfucks. Firstly, its well established that Montresor is an asshole; he’s more than an asshole, though, he’s a DANGEROUS man not unlike the ones you may see in real life. It’s really obvious that him and Ada are going to be abusive and toxic in one way or another.

He comes after her when she’s at her lowest, tells her all these amazing things about her and Ada hungry for validation EATS THEM UP. Why wouldn’t she? When a man comes in and calls her beautiful when she considers herself ugly and was bawling her eyes out, how could she not get herself into the next worse relationship for her. To Ada, this is normal. She can’t see the red flags because well she’s never been able to recognise them, and Montresor will probably feed her the validation she craves before cutting her off from everyone else and making her dependent on him and him ALONE. His spectre is all about control and oppression for fuck’s sake !!!!

What about Morella? Well, to me I don’t think she would’ve left Ada alone if she’d known that Montresor would’ve come for Ada. We can’t blame Morella for leaving, Ada asked her to leave and Morella couldn’t do anything more despite wanting to help so she DID.

We could hate on Ada and say, “God, why is she so fucking stupid?? Morella CLEARLY wants to help why isn’t she letting her??”

Ada clearly shows signs of mental illness, in my opinion I think she may have bpd but that’s just my headcanon. Anyway, Ada has a fucked up view on love, she gets into unhealthy relationships constantly because thats what she’s USED TO. When someone like Morella, who’s always been so nice and supportive towards Ada, comes in offering support Ada pushes her away. After being betrayed TWICE, why wouldn’t Ada think that Morella was lying to her? In fact, I think she actually EXPRESSES GUILT for pushing Morella away.

She KNOWS Morella is a sweet girl, she knows that Morella is a nice person. Despite all of that, she still pushes her away because she can’t bring herself to believe that someone THAT NICE could genuinely care about someone like HER. That’s why she clings onto Montresor, because Montresor is familiar and if you don’t think you deserve better than you settle for worse. When you’ve never been fed love on silver spoons, you start learning to lick them off of knives.

What does this mean for their characters?

Personally, I think Montrada is an AMAZING conflict for Ada and Morella’s relationship, especially for Morella. Morella is FINALLY faced with something that, after repeatedly compromising her morals, she’ll have to sit back and think to herself is really okay. If she’s actually ALRIGHT with this, as it’s obviously damaging for a person she cares about a lot. I think it provides for interesting conflict between Morella and Montressor which, if you think about it, have very contrasting spectres. Montresor’s spectre is the Son of Belial while Morella’s spectre is the Daughter of Raphael. Belial is one of the worst fallen angels of hell being the definition of evil itself and Raphael is God’d highest archangels. Sooooo…. Yeah there’s POTENTIAL when it comes to it.

Montrada also displays how shitty of a person Montresor really is, Ada is practically going to be abused by him and falling back in that cycle AGAIN except this time there’s someone that might actually want to help her out. Ultimately, it will be Ada’s choice on whether she wants to take Morella’s hand and get out of her own shitty toxic cycle.

Basically, I think that Morellada conflict would be SO INTERESTING seeing how both of them push each other and clash especially when Montresor is called into the picture. I think Ada does actually like Morella’s company but 1) thinks she’s lying and 2) may think that Morella is too good for her.

Also, if montrada DOES end up becoming a canon actual romantic ship Im going bonkers and I WILL be shaking rnf by the collar.
