mad again. crowley's whole point is that humanity doesn't deserve to suffer for the crimes committed by heaven and hell, so his solution is to create a new universe without angels or demons. sacrificing themselves for humanity, sure, I get it. but what about all the humans who were wiped out with the book of life? god gave them the option of returning all those humans, and instead his solution is to start all over a la the great flood, something crowley was staunchly opposed to. so not only is there no happy ending for crowley and aziraphale, but there's no happy ending for recently corporeal jesus, or mrs sandwich, mr arnold, nina and maggie, adam and the them, newt and anathema. it's job's kids all over again. they didn't want the new children the angels offered them, job and sitis wanted their children back. it's the same choice they gave adam. he wanted things to go back to normal with heaven and hell behaving themselves so he could play with his friends. how could crowley and aziraphale be happy sacrificing their existence knowing it condemns all of the humanity they know and love?
My understanding was that they COULDN’T bring back the old universe. It was gone. Adam could manipulate reality, but now there was no reality to manipulate. God was very clear that this story was over. Starting over again was the only option, all they could do was tell God how they wanted to start over.
god says "This decision, this one decision, can be yours. What do you want? Do you want me to put everything back the way it was?" so in fact, starting over wasn't even on the table. if the only options were 1) they let god end the universe right then like she was about to or 2) they put everything back the way it was, then their choice to create a new universe is already asking for something else. so what's stopping them from bringing back THEIR universe and removing heaven and hell from it?
and there may not have been much of it, but there was still some reality to manipulate. that's what they're doing by making a new book of life out of a blank book. "But that isn't The Book of Life." "It is if we say it is." and there's also what michael said, about things not truly being gone as long as someone remembers. fortunately, the only two left at the end of the universe have 6000 years of memories to draw from

I just watched GO3 this morning, and I have been periodically engaging with fan content throughout the rest of the day (mainly on Instagram and here).
Something I've found genuinely surprising is the amount of people who HATE the ending.
I agree that GO3 had issues - some plot lines felt irrelevant (like I understand why Jesus was there and I LOVED Jesus's character, but it didn't really do much but serve as a way to get Crowley and Aziraphale back together), however, that is more of a signal that everything was RUSHED (thanks to Neil Gaiman being a fucking awful creep; I also found out the Jon Hamm has allegations and Micheal Sheen has allegations of domestic abuse [I need to do more research; please do your own research on these topics))! That was my main drawback of the show (in writing terms), was that the plot was rushed and underdeveloped. But I don't really understand the hate for the ending.
I've seen two main points come up, which I will address:
1) It just doesn't make sense - I highly disagree. GO has ALWAYS been about humanity- the good and the bad. Crowley and Aziraphale LOVE humans and Earth, they developed their "own side," rebelling against Heaven and Hell to fight for it.
Thematically, the show has always focused on CHOICES. In Season 1, Adam chose to use his status as the AntiChrist to prevent Armageddon and to maintain a (semi) status quo, living with his parents and friends, and developing his own person. In Season 2, you not only have Gabriel and Beelzebub choosing eachother over Heaven and Hell and running off with each other, but you have Maggie and Nina developing their relationship with the help of Aziraphale and Crowley. Lastly for Season 2, you have Aziraphale choosing Heaven over Crowley, trying to make things better in a corrupt and manipulative system.
Now in Season 3, we see the consequences of these choices - Crowley is homeless and heartbroken, Aziraphale is stressed, and Armageddon is coming once again. The same thing that brought the two closer in Season 1, is helping to repair their relationship in Season 3.
Now for the choice to rebuild the universe without gods, angels, nor demons:
Crowley and Aziraphale love each other, but the thing that brought them together was their love of creation and humanity. As Aziraphale was enamored by Crowley's love for the universe. As angel and demon pre-earth, Crowley was enamored by Aziraphale's kindness in spite of authority. With the garden, Aziraphale and Crowley chatted over their fascination and appreciation for humanity, Crowley impressed with Aziraphale "loosing" his sword to protect Adam and Eve and they lying to God herself about it. I could go on, but you get the point - their love for humanity spurred their love for eachother. So of course they would chose humanity, they would chose the thing that connected them in the first place.
Also, another thing I love about this ending is that they are BOTH doing what they argued about in the ending of S2. Crowley is destroying the rigged system and finally freeing humanity from being cards in a game of Solitaire for a God. Aziraphale is helping humans and saving the universe (albeit, by destroying one), but he does it by playing God's game- by still creativity aligning himself within her system.
Both thematically and in character, this ending fits. It's sad yes, but it fits.
2) 6000+ years were just thrown away - Ok, yes - their relationship died with them (excluding finding each other as humans), but was it really thrown away?
Besides what I discussed in Point 1 above, they had 6000+ years to know and love eachother. Yes, in the past however many years between S2 and S3 their relationship was rough, but that doesn't ignore 6000+ years together. They had their time, with the trauma they had from Heaven (and Hell for Crowley), and it was time to let go. Sometimes, relationships aren't going to last, and that's ok. But in my mind, the human versions of Aziraphale and Crowley show how deep their love was, and that with or without Heaven and Hell, they will always fall in love.
The relationship wasn't thrown away, it literally transcended time, space, and reality.
And even if they put everything back the way it was, would they really be happy?
Ok, now for some smaller points I agree with:
"How could we have been happy, knowing that we were leaving all these people to goodness knows what awfulness?"
1) There was no real apology - Yes, I think Aziraphale should have had more time to apologize and DEMONSTRATE his apology to Crowley. I also think there should have been some discussion about consent with the kiss. BUT, I understand that there just wasn't enough time to do so. That is again, on Gaiman being a FUCKING DISTUGSTING CREEP.
2) There was no "final kiss"- I agree, a "final kiss" would have been nice. But I've been thinking about romance and GO. Gaiman did confirm that the angels/demons were asexual, but I wonder if there is some aromanticism involved as well? I was initially disappointed that "all we got" was Aziraphale kissing his fingers and putting them to Crowley's lips (which was still cute) and then the wedding bands, but, is kissing really needed to show romantic love? Obviously, for the humans, we saw that Asa and Anthony had wedding bands, they did get married, so of course they are in love in some fashion. But with Aziraphale and Crowley, we already KNOW they're in love - why else would they protect eachother, help eachother, and care for eachother for over 6000 years?
On top of that, is reciprocal romantic love even necessary? We know Crowley is in love, but what if on Aziraphale's side, it's more akin to a Queer-Platonic Relationship (QPR), again, with aromanticism added into the mix. That doesn't make their love for eachother or their relationship any less deep or valuable, just different than the norm.
And like I said at the beginning: this was clearly rushed; there wasn't enough time to really develop the subplots nor Ineffable Husbands, so we'll probably never know, we can only speculate.
Thank you for those who have read my rambles! I welcome you to reply/comment/reblog to continue this conversation. I am genuinely curious to hear what others think!
Genuine question how are you people just having 1 big cry at the end of the Good Omens 3 episode and that's it???? I've been hysterically (AND I MEAN HYSTERICALLY) crying on and off maybe every 10-15 minutes since I finished watching it and I watched it AT 8AM yesterday when it dropped so it's been a rough, swollen, sore, blurry 20 hours. I'm not too sure when I'll get it together and it feels akin to grief or mourning even though I AM PERFECTLY HAPPY AND SATISFIED WITH THE ENDING!!!! ITS EMOTIONAL TEARS NOT BAD TEARS!!!!! I am media literate so I'm more than happy with the ending 🫰 it's what aziraphale and crowley would've wanted more than anything and if they could've had a little peak and known they exist in every universe and every possibility and they're ALWAYS together I'm sure they would've been even more confident in their decision than they already were and relieved. It's SO in character for them and I'm so happy for them. "But it's not even them bcs they dont have the angel and demon past !!!1!" the whole point is IT IS THEM and also to show even if they aren't the only angel and demon on earth they STILL end up together and are ineffable no matter the circumstances. Your past doesn't make YOU, Crowley is obviously going to be softer in an instance where he wasn't a demon in hell for centuries but he's STILL the same person just not HURT. God forbid !!!!! And that was but a look into ONE of INFINITE instances where they always find eachother and live and love together each time. "They didn't even kiss !!!11!1" if Aziraphale had full on kissed Crowley in that moment before giving themselves up for the sake of a better world I'm sure he just wasn't too sure he'd be able to let go once he finally got exactly what he wanted. He said himself all he needed or wanted was Crowley, but he wanted CROWLEY to make the decision for once as aziraphale is known to be a bit selfish and make all the choices. He finally told Crowley just how he felt about him just how much he loved him and needed him and it sucks that it took them being forced into isolation in the last place in existence for aziraphale to realise he COULD just be alone with crowley forever and be satisfied BUT he knew that after letting Crowley decide humanity, that they both loved, deserved a better chance more than anything he couldn't get too close or he'd run the risk of changing his mind with agreeing. He finally got everything he could've ever wanted in a safe place and had maybe a few moments to bask in it before giving it up for something bigger than them. He just wanted to look Crowley in the eyes and see how happy he was before it all ended for them in this universe instead of risking it all in selfish pursuit. That one was FOR Crowley. ANDDD he still passed on a kiss as softly as he could without getting too close. It was a beautiful gesture and it means the world that he even did that. That WAS a kiss, it was a meaningful and romantic one that didn't need to be close and sloppy or heated but just very intentional and emotional. It's exactly how it had to be for them. And I'm crying again ggs gonna hit post now ✌️🤤

Character duo where one *remembers I don’t like fitting characters into trope boxes* is a completely fleshed out and realised person *remembers treating characters as real people and not story devices written with intent is bad* who is written by the author and *remembers death of the author* uh. And *fumbles and drops my pile of queue cards* ah fuck wait no *the menacing horse* what was that.
Aziraphale put his love for Crowley before all else. Crowley put his love for humans before all else. And that's why Aziraphale thought Crowley was the best angel.
Imagine finding out you have 90 minutes to tie up a love story that's developed over thousands of years. You create something beautifully in character and completely on point for the plot. You pay homage to the original writer's legacy in a fitting and poetic way and create an ending that not only shows the depth of two people's love for each other but the wider love they have for the thing that brought them together in the first place.
And then you go online to find the loudest outcry is that everyone hates it and "THEY DIDN'T EVEN KISS!"
I feel sorry for people who didn't get anything out of that stunning finale.

I loved it. Hopped on tumblr to see what others are saying.
80% of ppl hate it. Which I think sucks.
Like, no, Crowley and Azi didnt get their happy ending, Anthony and Asa are not them, correct, they're just human doppelgangers (tho I like the implication that every version of them find eachother in every universe). BUT, is that so bad? The show was good. It had good writing, I was satisfied. Not every story needs a happy ending. Not every character needs a happy ending. I personally LIKE the fact that Crowley and Azi didnt get the 'perfect' ending. They made their choice. They chose to stop existing so that the world could acc have a chance without God playing games with them.
I think theres something very Good Omens about an ending that says love doesn’t always save you, but it can still save the world.
