there's nothing inherently wrong with fanservice so long as it isn't losing focus on what the character is about.  someone like femspy, for example, i could see using sexuality to her advantage and so her wearing fishnets and a head scarf doesn't immediately strike me as unnecessary.  another thing to keep in mind is the era they grew up in.  Medic wouldn't be wearing a skirt because it was an attractive thing to do, she'd be wearing it because that's just what she'd wear.  not to say they'd strictly adhere to that, but it opens a window of plausibility. for the most part there aren't any femmodels that strike me as over sexualized EXCEPT for the femsniper but since she is an original character fulfilling honestly one of the least involved in battle class roles, i'm gonna leave that one alone (with whatever internal issues i might actually have with it).

as for dressing for WAR... remember that tf2 is a very silly game.  i don't think war is an appropriate word to describe what they do (unless you're Soldier) because if it was there wouldn't be any hats and they'd all be wearing uniformly 100% practical outfits.  i mean for godsake, Spy is running around in a three piece suit and dress shoes!  and skirts can't be that bad on the battlefield if Demo can do his job wearing a kilt. 

and don't hate the current femsniper just because she doesn't look like Sniper-- she isn't supposed to.  original characters fulfilling the class roles have no expectations to live up to so long as their style fits within tf2.  wanting one that resembles the original is why i did my paintovers, but unless someone wants to model them, you'll just have to deal or not deal

and if they are interpretations, don't be offended if they're pretty or wearing make up/jewelry (within reason)! i do think all the male characters have a certain level of attractiveness to them and they all have some sense of vanity in the way they style themselves, so why can't the ladies do that too?  so yeah, no need to hate on the AyesDyef femscout for wearing a skirt (though i echo the notion of impracticality, yet i've also seen arguments where people claim that girls of the era did wear skirts for baseball, so, who knows)

don't get me wrong, i completely understand the frustration of seeing things that don't line up with your interpretations, but i feel as if any and all mods of these characters are better than nothing.  it's not an easy process to make them and i'm just glad that the options are out there at all.  the trick to stop getting angry is to find a new way of looking at them; when i stopped trying to compare femscout's face to Scout's, and when i heard DustyOldRoses' voice pack for her, i immediately fell in love with her as a character in her own right

moral of the story is... have fun with this stuff! (or just ignore it)
