this blog is dead but i feel like i need to make a dumb announcement for whoever sees this!!
i’m days away from starting orientation for law school, and then classes start the week after that.
I always had some interest in law, my grandpa was a lawyer and I thought what he did was interesting, but it seemed lame to admit that when I was younger. In middle school I remember pacing up and down the video game aisle of walmart, nothing new catching my eye, but I always picked up the ace attorney game that was on the shelf with clearance or other “lame” games not worth locking up.
I finally caved and bought it right before some 16 hour road trip the family was taking, I needed something to play. I didn’t realize there were three of these lame games out at the time, so I started with trials and tribulations. it was fun, it was funny, and I loved it. I later found justice for all in a gamestop or something, and by that point I realized “oh i’m doing this backwards” and eventually found the first one online. it was honestly kinda fun playing that way, accepting the characters at face value and uncovering more and more of their backstory along the way.
but now i was even more embarrass to admit i was interested in law, what if they thought i was just interested in it because of a silly video game? it certainly heightened my interest, but it was never the root cause of my interest. it pointed out flaws in a legal system that could be tied to real life flaws the cjs faces. it did inspire me to look into reform efforts and theories currently in place and honestly just gave me some motivating characters to think of.
i love these stupid games so much, and i’m glad they pushed me a little further onto the path i want to be on.
