Monash Valley, Gallipoli. 1915. Allied trench positions on one side of the valley. The officer is Captain R.G. Chirnside an Aide-de-Camp in Anzac Army Corps Headquarters.

The government provided some funds towards the cost of day nurseries for munitions workers, and by 1917 there were over 100 in Britain.  But nothing was done for mothers in other forms of employment, who had to rely on friends and family.
