From @instagram: At this yearβs #Sundance Film Festival, filmmaker Tayarisha Poe (@tayarishasaurusrex) premiered her debut feature βSelah and the Spades.β Inspired by her years spent at boarding school in New Jersey, the filmβs story delves deep into the teenage politics of an elite (fictitious) school. βHow often does a black girl get the chance, in fiction, to be whoever she wants to be?β asks Tayarisha, whoβs based in Brooklyn, New York. βTo not smile when sheβs told? To manipulate the world to her advantage?
