Throwback: Faith Evans: You Gets No Love Feat. Diddy & Loon
"You Gets No Love" is the lead single from Faith Evans' 2001 third album, Faithfully. Producer Michelangelo Saulsberry's clever use of a synthesizer created an instantly recognizable motif—a distinct brass/bass hybrid. While Evans was primarily known for slower-tempo ballads, "You Gets No Love" proved she could dominate a club record. Faithfully marked the beginning of the next phase of her career in the 2000s, cementing her status as The First Lady of Bad Boy.
Evans' vocal performance on the track departed from her past melancholic tonality; instead, she delivered a feisty, rhythmic, finger-pointing testimonial to a cheating boyfriend. The song was recorded in 2001, the same year Sean Combs officially changed his moniker to P. Diddy. While Diddy anchored the album version, rapper Loon joined him for the heavily rotated music video version. Evans co-wrote the single alongside Saulsberry, Kameelah Williams, Toni Coleman, Andre Wilson, and Mechalie Jamison.
To find inspiration and direction for Faithfully, Evans and her then-husband, Todd Russaw, spent a year studying the music of Sarah Vaughan, The S.O.S. Band, Chicago, and Michael Franks. The dedication paid off: critics and fans alike frequently cite Faithfully as Evans' best album. Commercially, it earned Evans her highest opening week at the time, moving 101,000 copies and snagging the number two spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart before reaching gold status by January 2002.
A quarter-century after its debut, "You Gets No Love" remains a timeless club staple. Evans' enduring legacy was permanently cemented on June 3, 2026, when she was honored in her hometown of Newark, New Jersey, with the unveiling of "Faith Evans Way."
