Tattoos are so great because they can help people with bad self esteem to see their bodies as the pieces of art they always were.
Trauma breaks you into pieces. Healing teaches you broken crayons still color.

Healing from trauma is understanding that the war is over even if you can never again remove your armor.
Juansen Dizon (via juansendizon)
After a traumatic experience, the human system of self-preservation seems to go onto permanent alert, as if the danger might return at any moment.

YOU did that yourself. You deserve the credit for your growth, strength, and resilience. Not your trauma.

Sometimes the worst thing that happens to you, the thing you think you can't survive... it's the thing that makes you better than you used to be.
— Jennifer Weiner, Fly Away Home
reminder: you can start over at anytime. your day is not ruined. your world is not over. take a deep breath. start over.
Life is like a box of chocolates, halfway through you realise how much you hate yourself.

don’t compare yourself to them. they’re not better than you, nor you them. you are both at different points in your journey and you’re doing just fine.
Don’t Get Discouraged
Imagination and creativity are beautiful things. If you want to write (or draw), then do so – for yourself. Create for an audience of one. Enjoy whatever flows from the process. Let the magic out and be proud of the results.
If you want to share your work, do so without expectations. Don’t look for or expect outside validation, especially if you are creating fan works. The majority of people in fandoms are notorious for consuming without giving anything in return. Expect that.
Most of all, don’t get discouraged. Don’t let the lack of comments stop you from doing what you love.
Would it be nice if people who are enjoying your work would tell you so? Yes, absolutely. Comments are rewarding and motivating and extremely useful in helping you to hone your craft. But too many people just don’t know what to say so they say nothing. That is a fact.
We see so many journals telling people about the number of hours that writers and artists spend creating wonderful work that is free. We see these journals begging people to give back by commenting. Does that work? Maybe – maybe not. Our hope is that it at least raises some awareness as to how important it is to us to get feedback.
What we don’t see enough of are journals encouraging us to follow our hearts and do what we love no matter what.
So I am saying it now. Don’t get discouraged. You are wonderful, you are talented, and you are extremely brave. It takes courage to slice off a bit of your soul and put it out there in the ether, basically asking people to judge you. Your merit does not depend on strangers. Your merit comes from the fact that you put yourself out there in the first place.
Be and do your best. Keep growing in your chosen craft. You and your art – whether written or drawn - matter.
Thank you for sharing it with us!
