@sherbertilluminated there's a line somewhere in Ursula Vernon's Digger that goes something like "it is difficult to be metaphysical around the truly geologically minded"
so are you gonna get therapy or are you gonna keep using books as an escape from reality this year too
Here's what YouTube looked like in 2006 exactly 19 years ago

Take it slow, take it easy on me. HEATED RIVALRY | 104 Rose
Anyone else coming back to Tumblr after a 10 yr hiatus, because other social media is sensory overload, has way too much AI, and just really really sucks now?
I see this post all the time and I'm so confused. Most people throughout history were busier than your average resident of a developed country is now. My primary reaction to reading about the past since I was a child has been "I'm glad I don't live then, I'm too weak for that, I could not do that much work all the time."
In the past things took longer to do but they often required a waiting period. You had to chop wood, put it in your stove, and light it, but it took a few hours for it to get hot enough for baking and then another hour for the bread to fully cook. History books will say things like "It took 4 hours to make a loaf of bread" but they don't mention that you only had to do actual work for a fraction of that time and the rest could be devoted to other tasks or relaxing for a while
Employee workload has doubled or tripled because of modern technology. It makes things faster but also creates less downtime which employers have filled with more responsibilities. You can do more work in a 10 minute period if all the files are on the computer but in the olden days you got to take a short walk to the filing cabinet and let your mind wander while you thumbed through folders, which means a modern 10 minutes of work is more mentally exhausting. The amount of work one employee has to do today used to be split between 2 or 3 people. We lost those moments of downtime we used to get by having to do things the slow way

oh and that gap in my resume is when i was digging my own grave
the dirt under my nails is - yeah. it won't wash out. although that's actually from when i dug myself out again. i suppose success and defeat can look the same in a mirror.
Reminder to self:
What do you mean?? I took one whole day off! Why am I not immediately recovered from years of barely scraping by at subsistence level???
you know even if a homeless person or a starving person is in that position because of their own "bad decisions" i don't care. it doesn't matter. no supposed financial misstep is enough to condemn someone to homelessness or poverty.
Search and rescue teams do not ask if a hiker was properly equipped and prepared before they go out to look for them. EMTs do not ask if a driver checked their mirrors before they take them to the hospital. Lifeguards do not ask if a swimmer made a mistake by going into a riptide before they dive in after them. Judgement doesn't help anyone, including you, the person doing the judging. Just help people. Just shut the fuck up and help people.
I'm curious how people interpret 'The Serprent & The Wings of Night' based on whether or not they read the 'War of Lost Hearts' series first.
I'm not done with the Crown of Nyxia series yet. But I think the slave/master relationship that is briefly touched on in Daughter of No Worlds creates an interesting backdrop for the Father/Daughter relationship in TSatWoN.

Sometimes you forget about the impact that being raised by a single (boomer) father had on you as a teen. But then as a 32 yr old woman, you read a fun vampire fantasy series by Carissa Broadbent and suddenly remember feelings and experiences you had 16+ years ago.
Interlude chapter 41.5 killed me, guys. I'm crying.
