I'm disabled and it isn't a bad word. It is 100% ok to call me disabled. I hate being called differently able, etc. Handicapped is even ok, handicapable isn't

I'm telling you you guys have to stop buying into the propaganda about disability fakers. EVEN if fakers exist to the extent that it is a massive problem, disabled people still should be given proper support. If governments and other organizations fail to deliver that it does not matter what their excuse is; they have still failed disabled people and that is unacceptable. If their solution to so-called fakers is one that harms disabled people then they have not actually solved anything, but it sure as hell is a convenient scapegoat.
It also CANNOT be overstated that many people with legitimate needs are and will continue to be labeled as fakers, a sentence which is hurtful at best and deadly at worst.
This is just a reminder to all disabled people. You're living in a world that excludes us by design, and you don't give yourself enough credit for the creative solutions you constantly have to invent and implement to navigate that.
It strikes me sometimes that people should be DYING to get our help with creative problem-solving, which is literally the only way for us to live. But because of the way ableism is ingrained in society, abled people refuse to see us as capable, and we ALL miss out (although obviously we are the ones who suffer most).
And if the problem you solved today was solved by resting, then you are absolutely included in this. None of this is contingent on creating solutions that contribute to capitalism.

For decades, the medical community has ignored mountains of evidence to wage a cruel and futile war on fat people, poisoning public perception and ruining millions of lives. It's time for a new paradigm.
“Diets do not work. Not just paleo or Atkins or Weight Watchers or Goop, but all diets. Since 1959, research has shown that 95 to 98 percent of attempts to lose weight fail and that two-thirds of dieters gain back more than they lost. The reasons are biological and irreversible. “
Fatsplaining at its finest. I don’t give a fuck when someone chooses to not be healthy, but don’t sit there and make bullshit excuses and blame anything other than yourself and your lack of self control. Take responsibility and own up to it, you’re not fooling anyone.
I’m sorry other people’s shapes make you so angry that you pretend science is wrong
Obviously this person must think climate change is wrong and vaccines cause autism

The author of the article, Michael Hobbes, hosts a podcast with Sarah Marshall called You’re Wrong About… where they “circle back to an event, person or trend that’s been misremembered in the public imagination.” While I’ve never gotten around to reading the article (it’s still sitting in my Pocket queue where it’s estimated at about a 30 minute read time…) I have listened to their very good episode on the topic that as I understand it is basically the article in conversational audio form: https://rottenindenmark.wordpress.com/2018/09/19/the-obesity-epidemic/
(also it’s a damn good podcast in general)
Well, I've found a new podcast...
unpopular opinion: any infographic that does the whole “this meal of consisting entirely of lettuce and apples is way cheaper than a Big Mac, checkmate poor people” thing must use the total price, rather than price per serving.
none of this “well a thing of cinnamon is $8 and each has 200 grams so a gram is like $0.4 and divided by four it’s really only $0.1 per serving.” no. spices cost money. if I have to buy a new spice, that’s more money. how much is one canister? that’s the price.
did I have to buy a new pot for this? how much did that cost?
do I need multiple pots? is there complex timing? do I need to set aside an hour to prep? all that costs money.
when you get fast food, the total price is right there. we can talk about how that total price is artificially deflated due to the exploitation of labor and the industrialization of food, but the fact remains that a ten-piece chicken nuggets meal at burger king is like $6, and making them yourself costs a lot in buying a whole thing of chicken plus flour plus eggs plus spices plus frying oil (not even counting that a meal comes with a side and a drink).
(incidentally, this is an issue with any advice that calls for buying things in bulk because it’s cheaper overall. yes, it is objectively cheaper in the long run to buy the $15 thing of toilet paper at $1/roll than it is to buy the $10 thing of toilet paper for $1.50/roll. but when you only have $10, then you’re getting the $10 one, because that’s what’s cheaper to you.)
Thisssssss!!!!!!
Being poor is expensive. And people want to overlook that, always, because it’s such an unpleasant fact.
Not to mention the storage space you need in order to get use out of anything you buy in bulk. Square-footage is expensive!
I’ve been scream about this forever…

What an asshat
It’s important to remember that language learning apps often present a very American view on pronunciation and dialect. Duolingo for example teaches American English, Mexican Spanish and Canadian French. Even within those countries there is variation that the app doesn’t necessarily reflect. But MOST IMPORTANTLY if someone is a native speaker of a language they know better than you do. That’s why native speakers are the best way to learn something. Learning from book or app or a secondary speaker is never as good as a native.
Funny, I had downloaded a Japanese language app to help stay in practice. I got fed up with the thing because it was pronouncing things WRONG, it left out key details about how to use different words or how some words don’t have definite meaning but rather change depending on context. It also used EVERY informal version of anything that has a formal/informal usage. It pissed me off knowing ppl are trying to learn from this app and are coming off rude and stupid.
OPs bf is fucking delusional and full of himself. Ppl like that cant be convinced to see outside their own opinion.
Isn't it better that nor learning at all? Like, I know it's not ideal and have myself been frustrated at Duolingo for the weird pronunciation of some words and lack of upfront, comprehensive teaching of grammar, but I accept it teaches a lot of words and phrases which seems like a good start in terms of creating a confident beginner. You have to take it with a pinch of salt and maybe try other avenues if you want to speak competently on conversation rather than casually get by while on holiday. I can't believe he... I mean... He is too trusting. I can't believe he hasn't noticed any glitches or anything. He doesn't have any ear for it, clearly. Totally agree with your take on him. I've never tried to learn Japanese and am obviously not a native speaker, so I suppose I'm just wondering if you're rightfully frustrated at your level, or if it really is that bad that it's no good for any kind of learner? I mean, any beginner is going to come off stupid 🤷

You realize not everything is about you right
YOU REALIZE ALMOST NOTHING IS EVER ABOUT US AND THAT’S WHY WE’RE MAD, RIGHT?
I’m a little bitter that so many episodes focused on Gwen and so few focused on Ianto.

Oh, wow. Wasn't expecting that today. Well, isn't that just something to get my feels running for weeks while my brain cells tick it over...
