this is actually really useful if you have an art blog full of years of work that you otherwise no longer have access to the original files. A lot of the art I have in the early days of my art blog are in that boat. I did this process JUST for that reason and I was pretty astonished at just how many pieces of media it backs up! (literally all of it) Drawings I didn’t even realize were sitting in my archive due to having been posted to text posts or undercuts, or untagged for years! It’s worth it if just for that, even if tumblr isn’t shutting down or deleting your blog.

This actually worked (after some big trial and error) on my Mac! I’ve got my blog saved now and a bunch of the fan art blogs. What a relief!

How big was the file? That’s my main worry because I have (goes to check) over 57,000 posts HOLY SHIT DUDE

@sleepdeprivedmind, so if you go back through my blog a bit, you can see the announcement Tumblr made about its policy changes, which supposedly are flagging and removing any visual nudity, including fanart and “female-presenting nipples” (yes, it actually says that) and any visual pornography. But, of course they are using algorithms, which are painfully imprecise, and already I’ve seen people reblogging many things that are getting tagged for “violating” the new policies, when they aren’t the least bit inappropriate (a male with with only his shirt off, for example, in a group photo.) I saw a post where they had flagged Darren’s Entertainment Weekly cover, which is just a close up of his face! Another that was a classical painting of Jesus with (again) a nude torso. It’s a mess. And we know how this goes - we had similar things happen on FF.net and LJ. They start with the visual, including nude fanart, and then the writers are next. So people are understandably upset, and trying to figure out where to go next, if indeed that becomes necessary. I’ve reblogged a lot of posts about backups (WordPress) and fandom-run alternatives (Dreamwidth and Pillowfort). And if they destroy the platform for adult fandom, they’ve just made our entire TWC article irrelevant, in six months. Lovely!
