Birthday Boyz

So, as always, I’m horribly late to the party but I wanted to give a big shout out to the birthday boys of Gorillaz; Murdoc, 2D and Russel. Gorillaz has gotten me through some very hard times and always brings a giant smile to my face even when I’m in the deepest pit. Love you all!

Oh lord, why do I have to post about this? Why can’t you weirdos just play nice?

A pedophile, for those in the g*orillaz fandom that are unaware of the definition or simply pulled it out of their rear ends, is sex or sexual attraction to anyone 13 or younger. Throwing that word around is dangerous especially if it’s not even accurate. Unless it’s canonically confirmed that if 2D touched or abused Noodle as a child (in which case I would absolutely have a problem with that, fiction or not), then IF, and only IF, 2nu is canon, it has no relation to pedophilia. It may be weird or inappropriate to you, but Jamie Hewlett writes weird stories, and they’re usually completely harmless. He would never write 2D as a pedophile and you know it.

I’m not saying 2nu is canon, but I am saying to just remember they’re both adults. And a lot of you are mostly just threatened because it contradicts your 2*doc ship (of which I have no problem, but don’t pretend it’s not also problematic).

Bearded 2d, Short haired noodle and 2nu trash

2D’s head was spinning. The pavement was cool through the holes of his jeans, but it gave him little comfort. He felt Noodle move closer to him and without thinking he grabbed her leg and steadied his pounding skull against her hip. The muscles of her thigh tensed under his hand and his heart clenched – hard.

“Sorry, love,” he said. His throat was dry.

“What for?” 

“Nothing.” He was glad he couldn’t see her face. More words came out of his mouth before he could stop them:

“When did you get so lovely?”

Either a sharp intake of breath or just the wind, “2D…”

“No, I shouldn’t say that. Forget I said that.”

Noodle didn’t respond. A minute passed without sound or movement and 2D just concentrated on breathing. Then her hand pushed tentatively into his hair and God. It felt like butterscotch and open fields and everything good in the world. It felt like grace.

You are really pushing it. You really are. I would have been fine if you just saw 2D and Noodle as friends. I would have been fine if you interpreted their relationship as familial. If the thought of the both of them getting together made you ill, fine. We all can’t like the same things.

But bullying people who ship 2nu is where I draw the line. How dare you. You are going after fanartists over something as petty as a differing opinion. I have seen you do it to @thatpsychoraccoon @2nus, @lollipopandroid, @robotspacejelly, @naiyonee, and now you bully @tonicteacup. Half of these girls are under 18. @tonicteacup just deleted all of her art from her tumblr, even the things she drew that had nothing to do with 2nu. Why? Because mean people who do not know their place thought it would be cute to bully a sixteen year old girl who draws a pairing they don’t like.

This type of toxic behavior is coming from all sort of people in the Gorillaz fandom. 2doc shippers, those who do not like to ship anyone in the band, and people who headcanon Noodle as a lesbian. I may disagree with your stances, but I do not go on anon and leave you a mean spirited message for having a different opinion as my own. I do not send you death threats for liking the things you like. I do not accuse you of supporting pedophilia. 

And let us be clear, pedophilia is sexual attraction to children 12 and under; a very repulsive thing. 2nu is not pedophilia. Nobody is making shipping art of 10 year old Noodle with 2D. And no, headcanoning that Noodle had a crush on 2D when she was younger is not shipping it either. These fanartists, and many others like them, are drawing shipping art of  adult Noodle and 2D. ADULT NOODLE. 18 years old and over. A woman character who is currently 26 with a male character who just turned 39. This is not weird, this is not supporting pedophilia, this is not promoting child grooming. It is rather common for adults who date/marry each other to have an age gap. Sometimes they meet each other when one is under 18 and the other is already an adult. It happened with Elvis Presley when he met his future wife Priscilla; she was 14 and he was 24 when they met. They did not get romantically involved until she was an adult. And none of the 2nu shippers, including me, want 2D and Noodle to have had a relationship until after Noodle’s 18th birthday.

I have scavenged the internet since I was 12, looking at fanart of my favorite characters and favorite pairings. I also came across stuff I didn’t like, some that even repulsed me. But I never gave anyone ill-will for it. I ignored them, I clicked to a different page, I KEPT MY HARSH OPINIONS TO MYSELF. I stayed in my lane. It’s basic courtesy; do unto others as you would want done unto you. Unless you have definite proof that someone has drawn something that is illegal (like actual child pornography or plagiarized art), then do not pick a fight. And do not send death threats under any circumstance.
