you know what's going on with lil nas x is persecution, right. it's not "just" internet trolling—he's only 21 and being targeted by SITTING SENATORS for his art. this is textbook persecution, complete with the coalescing of religion and political power, and the fact that he can fire off meme-y one liners doesn't change that! fucking hell! it horrifies me how this is being played off for laughs, even by leftists and "we are the daughters of witches you couldn't burn" crowd. it's terrifying and the actual, bodily threat to him is VERY REAL regardless of how funny his responses are.
I'm not Black so I didn't think it was appropriate of me to talk about his Blackness but dear GOD the disparity between lil nas x's vulnerability and openness about his sexuality in his art and public appearance, and the amount of backlash and discrimination he's suffered for it vs the amount of public recognition and institutional support he's gotten as compared to harry styles who put on a fucking skirt and got hailed as the King Of The Gays™ is so blatantly racist.
this is just from my tags but i 100% agree. at the max cishets and all of those 'christians' will accept white lgbt artists and barely anyone else. nas, being a black, darkskin man with obvious (beautiful) afro features is also playing a big part in this - people are saying hes doing too much, hes pushing a demonic agenda, hes harming their children meanwhile harry styles barely if ever gets this type of backlash; lighter-skinned black artists do have a privilege in the music industry (for ex. i hate to use her here but cardi b was embraced a lot easier compared to megan because she could actually choose to embrace her blackness or not which is a whole other story but).
the only reason all of this hate didn't come earlier is because since nas had tattoos and wore clothing people agree men should wear, that hes darkskin and goodlooking therefore hes not really gay because hes not acting typically feminine enough. <- which is another example of him being demonized and people are still going around saying its such a pity he's gay bc they want his bbc.
black artists in general whenever they get popular are always surrounded with rumours of selling their soul, being the devils puppet and etc. which is really harmful for obvious reasons. when u have white artists who actually gaybait, like taylor swift, they dont get these same reactions. harry styles no matter what he does will never get this type of reacting from the general public, hes still a white man.
then, again bc of racism, colorism, demonization and all of that shit nas isnt even allowed to showcase any anxiety or nervousness towards this issue. hes giving those funny tweet replies only because thats the only thing he can do right now to alleviate the situation somewhat and not make it drastically worse. if we're being honest, if he publicly said he was hurt and affected and even planned to take a mental health break, nobody would take him seriously. if he took the legal side of dealing with things... like u said actual senators would attack him so

I think also, he had the audacity to be a Black gay man who entered into a genre that’s almost entirely white (and, these days, blatantly white-supremacist in the “we love the KKK” kind of way). He didn’t “stay in his place.” He said “bitch, this IS my place, shut the fuck up” and The White Establishment At Large didn’t like that.
I’d suggest further that he’s suffering because he’s a gay man, as opposed to a lesbian or bisexual woman. WLW don’t have a cakewalk either, but there is a certain level of queerness women can get away with in the public sphere that men can’t. (As an example, although both these people are white: when Lady Gaga came out as bi, she was a “bicon” and it was “fresh” and “brave.” When Adam Lambert came out as gay, it destroyed his American career. These two things happened within a year of each other.)
LNX is that intersectional person the right yells about as “unrealistic,” and I suspect that’s the thing that’s most damning of all. He’s a Black gay male (who is gay! And a man!) who just kind of said “fuck genres they’re boring” and treats gender roles as a bad suggestion. Every item on that list is one more tick-off for a large subset of American culture, and that’s why it’s so fucking bad.
As a satanist I can 100% say this is just the satanic panic all over again.
People freaking out about others doing free speech and pushing boundaries. People getting offended by seeing something different, offended by recognizing that LGBT+ exists, offended that Christianity isn’t the only religion out there. They make up horrors like baby eating, that quite frankly, never happened. This is what a witch hunt really is, accusing people, who dare to speak out, of false unspeakable horrors as a cover for their own inner hatred.
They don’t want any sort of justice. They don’t want to be inclusive.
They want a scapegoat.
They want to make the world conform to their norms.
They want to perpetuate hate.
