Arts & Crafts masterlist!
What to do with items you may typically throw out
This list will also include alt, therian & witchcraft based crafts too ^^
If you have any suggestions to add on the list, comment/reblog :]
Soda can:
Take off the tab for chainmail, chains, bracelets or pendants
Cut the bottom (circular indented part) to make pin buttons! You can use mod podge to seal a design on or just paint it, and hot glue a pin at the back.
The rest of the body can be cut and flattened and cut into shapes or glued into a sketch/scrapbook. You can also use it to make spikes/studs.
Take a pin and stab holes into a design! Put some fairy lights in the can and boom you have a cool lantern.
Plastic bottle
Take the cap and use it to make button pins, just hot glue a pin at the back (+ you can make a backing with a dot of hot glue if its not a safety pin)
If the bottle body has ridges you can make a textured stamp from it.
If the bottle has the plastic label you can take it off and put it in your sketch/scrapbook. You can also make a cool pin by cutting out the logo and gluing it to a hot glue backing (giant blob of hot glue, glue the logo to the flat side and cut around the logo, then add a pin)
Cut the top off the bottle/cut in half and you can use it for paint brushes, or plant something in it if you cut holes in the bottom
You can use the cap as a circular stamp
The cap and screw can be cut out to make connectors for cosplay/fursuits etc!
Thin cardboard (pasta boxes, cracker boxes, etc.)
Tear the seams of the cardboard and flatten it entirely. You can use this for maskmaking!
If the box has a little see-through plastic film, you can cut that out and use it for a shaker pin, or make a window for your sketch/scrapbook
Cut out shapes from the cardboard can be used in your sketchbook/scrapbook
Make a template/pattern design
Corrugated cardboard
Mask making!
Make a hardcover for a diy book
Rip it in half to get the ridges, can be used in cosplay props (like guns, electronics etc) or as a texture stamp
Theres basically endless possibilities with cardboard so if you have more ideas then comment/rb :>
Toilet rolls
Make horns! (Cosplay/gear)
Make a garland
Circular template
Old clothes/sheets/tablecloth etc.
Cut out shapes n make patches! You can use fabric paint(or buy a fabric medium for your paint). You can also cut out socks with designs and thatll already be a patch
Sew new clothes! You can use any free pattern online or just eyeball it like I do lol
The waistband of jeans can be used to make wristcuffs (bonus if you cut it with the button)
Seam rip old zippers or take out buttons for other projects. You can sew zippers onto clothes for fun, or make a zipper pocket, or a bag. You can sew buttons on clothes for fun, or use them for wristcuffs, or replace a button, etc.
The overall straps with the metal clips and buttons can be used as a bag strap
Any faux fur trim from a coat can be seam ripped and used to make tails, leg warmers, wrist cuffs, fur trim on other clothes, fur belt, etc.
Cut up scraps very small for filling (pillows, plushies etc.)
Used paper (old writing/random printed scraps/mcdonalds or other paper bags/ newspaper etc.)
Make new paper! Cut up the paper into small strips or shred the paper. Blend it with water and make new paper. (There are a lot of steps so look up a tutorial.)
Make paper stars/origami
Stick random paper in your sketch/scrapbook
Thin Plastic bags (of any origin)
(Look up a tutorial for this) You can fold plastic bags and cut them into tubular strips. Then tie each strip together to make plarn.
Some plarn ideas: Plastic mats for the homeless, sturdy plastic bag, placemat, outside mat, anything else you can knit/crochet.
Pill bottles
The cap can be used to make button pins
Make budget spell jars
Receipts
Glue it in your scrap/sketchbook (draw on em too)
Flower petals
Glue into scrap/sketchbook
Make perfume (you can use fat and petals but look up a tutorial)
Make beads (you can turn it into a clay/paste but look up a tutorial)
Paint stamps!
Feathers
Glue into scrap/sketchbook
Make jewelry (disclaimer: feathers are used a lot for certain indigenous ceremonial things as jewelry, headpieces etc. So please acknowledge where you live/your culture and make sure its okay first)
Other decoration (maybe start up a collection :P)
Sticks
Paint stamps!
Make wings (cosplay/gear)
If the stick is thick enough, you can make runepieces from them for witchcraft/religion purposes or general decoration (bonus points if its from your favourite tree/regionally native tree)
Blair witch project decorations for halloween :)
Jewelry hanger/other kind of hanger
Try basket weaving! (Look up a tutorial tho but I think you can do this with sticks)
Yarn scraps
Filling for pillows, plushies etc
If the yarn is natural you can make wool rovings and spin new yarn
