Laomedea flexuosa (Colonial Hydroid)
I swear to butts this is an animal, not a plant. Actually, it's several animals. I never want to ID another hydroid again!
Pinnixa sp.Ā (Pea Crab)
I found some of these little buddies living in association with the Diopatra (Junk Worms) I just posted. Iām still working on IDing them down to the species level, because pea crabs in New England donāt usually live in association with Junk Worms?? But wow, what a precious little crustacean.
Diopatra cuprea (Junk Worm)
These precious little frilly friends build their tubes out of random junk from their surroundings!

Coming here this weekend was a mistake,ā they say, suddenly, catching me off guard.
āWhatās wrong?ā I ask, āYou know if you needed to work on your thesis at my house, I wouldnāt mind. I hope thatās not what youāve been stressed out about all weekend.ā
āNo, I just⦠I feel like youāre more invested in this friendship than I am. I canāt keep up. I canāt breathe. I canātā¦ā they take a deep breath, deepening their eye contact with my bedroom carpet, āWhat Iām saying is we canāt talk anymore.ā
I let their words sink in, pushing down the urge to reach out and hold my best friendās hand in comfort. What was I going to comfort them about? Myself? My own selfishness? I settle for smoothing out my skirt, instead. For a moment, I let myself get lost in how big my hands seem against the green and white paisleyā¦
Long-bodied Cellar Spider (Pholcus phalangioides)
I decided to test out my new camera by photographing my spidery housemates! ā¦in my basement apartment⦠in the middle of the night. Not exactly representative of my (admittedly rusty) photography skills, but I figured Iād share a few pictures of my spider friends beforeI move out in a week!
I havenāt been outside in days (arthritis is kicking my butt), so maybe the new camera will motivate me to crawl out of my dungeon and get some fresh air in order to get some less-crappy critter photos?
Eventually I will get the hang of posting to the correct blog?
