Porpita porpita
I went to Da Nang, Vietnam last month and this was all over the beach's shores. It's a blue button, and no it's not a jellyfish. It's a colony of hydroids (or Hydrozoan Polyps), more closely related to the Portuguese Man o War, but less "savage," haha. I came out the water unscathed.
It's under the suborder Chondrophora, under the class Hydrozoa, which is under phylum Cnidaria.

siphonophores!
Have you seen a siphonophore (Order: Siphonophorae)?
I have now
Yes, in photos/videos
Yes, irl
I'm not sure
The first species pictured is the Hula Skirt Siphonophore, the second is a Southern Man-o-War. This order includes 194 species so far. These animals operate in colonies with each member performing a function (or functions) for the whole, including things like reproduction, digestion, floatation, etc.
