As artists, we can often feel like we’ve plateaued on our progress because of lack of time, or resources. Not every artist has the time to go to art classes, and not every artist has the money to attend art-school and receive a proper critique. 

That’s why I’ve created this blog! Introducing the… 

The Redline Station is a blog that is dedicated to helping artists. If an artist is struggling with anatomy, or would like a critique on their art, they can submit the art using the SUBMIT YOUR ART button. Then, one of our moderator artists will pick up their piece and do a redline of it to help them better see the places that need fixing.

What’s a redline?

Good question!  A redline is when an artist will draw directly over a piece of art in order to show what the mistakes in anatomy are. By seeing the comparison of the art itself (at a lower opacity) and of the more accurate anatomical example, the artist can more quickly improve their drawing.

Our artists will take your submitted drawing and give you a redline. They will then post it to the blog alongside the original to help you compare the two and easily see what needs to be done. It’ll look somewhat like this!

Q: Can I submit anything? 

A: Yes! Any type of art, human or animal is okay! The only thing that’s not okay is gore and pornography. The posts will need to be PG-13. (Kissing and suggestive scenes are okay, however.)

Q: Will you redline if the drawing is in my style? 

A: Yes! Anime style, cartoony style drawings are also okay. The idea isn’t to fix the drawing to look more like ‘realism’, but to fix it to make it look more believable within the frame of style it’s already in.

Q: How many drawings can I submit for redlining?

A: For the time being, I’m the only one running the blog… In order to keep my sanity, I will accept only one submission per person and only keep submissions open for a limited time until I get more help. Which brings us to our next point…

TIPS TO HOW TO DESIGN FUSIONS:

so @artwithkoda asked me for tips to designing fusions that would look unique, and even tho I’m DEFNITELY no expert on desining there is something that I’ve been worring a lot about my fusions

and it’s their bodytypes

in the past I just copied the bodytypes of the canon fusions, or just kept doing the same thing, and that made me fell really bad, cause definitely my fusions weren’t unique enought, because it doesn’t matter how original their outfit/hair/color is if the base is from another character or if all your designs have the same base

so now I focus ALOT on their shapes, I tend to look what the character have in coomon and what I can exxagerate:

Rose and Aquamarine wore dresses so a fusion with a long dress was a must, they also have big hips andd round designs so the fusion also has to have that, I also wanted a “8″ shape on them, that would ake them stand out from other fusions I did or would do with rose that would have big hips, also since Aquamarine is TINY, I made sure their brest and upper part of their face would be smaller to give that sense of the big quartz design form rose being there but the tiny aquaamrine also being there

with Aquamarine ans Topaz I just make Topaz design round, and game them small hads and feet to emulate Aqua being small also have them big hips and tick tighs

Aqua and Ame were a challenge they both have round designs, so it would be easi to just make a gem with the exact same bodyshae of one of them, and tthat would be wrong! only the same type of gem should keep the same bodytype when fusing, so I just exagerated the round theme and made them really…well fat, and again added the small hands and legs, tho they weren’t so small as Topaz+Aqua, they had a cilinder look like Ametht’s limbs, u can still tell easily who is Aqua/Ame and Aqua/Topaz

Jasper, Bismuth, Amethyst and Ruby fusions all share the theme of being big and buff, but JXB is muth more buff, has a muscular square face and has smaller legs, ame and ruby(like Ame and Aqua they almost have the same body shape but I still made something different exagerating their body shapes) they are more of a stocky body type, they’re buff but a bit fat too (and have huge and thick arms like Sugilite, but notice I didn’t copy Sugi’s design, same with Ame and Jasper but with slightly diferent proportions

breathes a sigh of relief whenever I open a new fanfic, partially because he wants some variety and partially because he secretly likes reading new angsty fanfics even though he knows next to nothing about the fandom

is watching me right now as I type about how trashy I am, muttering “Oh look, it’s finally become self-aware. How very charming.”

lowkey loves it when I work on my original stories for once because he’s very invested in the characters

gets his hopes up every time I open that document, only to have his dreams crushed when I close it again after writing one sentence

would probably be laughing right now about how accurate this is if he ever laughed

In lieu of the new tumblr settings, can I make yet another plea with those of you who read fics and consume art on tumblr to please reblog them?   

Fics and art will die on a creator’s dash if they aren’t reblogged.  It’s never been more true than now. 

If you want to keep receiving content from creators, reblog the the content. If it’s something you enjoyed?  Reblog it.  It’s not hard.  I am going to make a point to reblog everything I read from now on.  (With the proper tags of course), as well as all the art that I see on my dash.  

I cannot make it simpler.  Posts WILL die unless they’re reblogged.  No one will see your ‘like’.  Your like is a bookmark for YOU to find it later.  Your reblog means the world to a creator because it means you are willing to go the little extra distance and recommend this to your followers.  

Don’t let creations die on the dash of those who created them.

1. It makes content creators’ day when you interact with us, especially reblog.

2. Comments and tag blathering are really, really special to me, and I look at allllll my reblogs just in case someone said something interesting in the tags.

it allows you to resize artwork without it becoming pixellated. this is a MASSIVE help if you, for example, make lineart too small or something. it works best with things that 1. have no textures 2. have smooth lines 3. have cel shading, but it still works really damn well for things that don’t fit that profile
