Came to me in a vision
In the first scene of Good Omens season two Crowley has a book. This shouldn't have made me almost cry but it um. Did.
BECAUSE I THINK I'm not entirely sure (I'm probably definitely missing an important detail and the book is like the bible or something and it's really significant) but I THINK IT'S THE FIRST TIME AZIRAPHALE HAS SEEN A BOOK AND HE'S WITH CROWLEY. AND THEN HE DECIDES HIS EARTHLY HOME SHALL BE A BOOK SHOP. COINCIDENCE??? I THINK ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT. Aziraphale fell in love with Crowley the moment he watched him create the stars. Then, when Crowley fell, (literally) Aziraphale had to hide his love, and he hid it so well that maybe he forgot it altogether.
But that is why he has his books. They remind him of the Angel he loved In The Beginning.
And then. AND THEN. Crowley saves the books for Aziraphale, thinking he loves books, when THE BOOKS ARE A SYMBOL OF AZIRAPHALE'S LONGING FOR HIM. But he longs for a version of Crowley that doesn't exist anymore.
That's my theory anyway. It's heartbreaking I know.
Okay, I'm going to be a fussy pedant here. What Crowley used Before the Beginning when activating the nebula wasn't technically a book, certainly not in the same sense as all the books in Aziraphale's shop. Those were what is called in the building trade "the specs" - the plans and specifications. The material suppliers and contractors use the specs of a project to prepare their bids on the job, and the people doing the actual work use the plans (which are the architectural drawings and engineering diagrams and so on; it looked to me like the scroll Aziraphale held so Crowley could crank things up was the plans) and specifications to guide them during construction.
You might call the specs "the Bible" of a project. Just throwing that out there. And of course there's a Plan, too. Often quite a few of them.
And they usually get altered a bit on the fly as the intended work encounters real-world conditions, which is where cost overruns come in.
So yeah, it's a book, in the sense of being a bound document containing information; but you wouldn't sit down and read the specs like you would The Crow Road. You might, however, read it similarly to a book of prophecy.
I don't have anywhere to go with this. I'm just tossing those terms out. Seems like somebody ought to be able to do something with them.
I KNEW I MISSED SOMETHING IMPORTANT my brain is too tired to work out what all of this could mean but I love everything you've said and I honestly didn't expect anyone to even see my post so... YEAH.
And your point about them being "altered on the fly" completely fits with Crowley's childlike excitement and wonder with which he creates the stars, and his forgetting the "let there be light" bit. Except heaven doesn't really like when things are altered on the fly. From the very beginning, Crowley didn't fit with heaven's plans I suppose.

ok but communism is just capitalism with less turtles
reblogging my first ever Tumblr post that got 68 notes for no fucking reason so it can get 69 (heh) notes for no fucking reason and also to specify that I do not believe what I said and never did. obviously capitalism is an enemy of nature due to the fact it promotes greed and profit over all things, even life.
ok bye.
The BEST LINE in the whole of good omens season two (this is definitely an exaggeration because I can't remember the whole script and there were some absolute BANGERS, "we've been talking for billions of years" UGH and "was that a travel sweet" and "but it's pretty" OH MY LORD "she had balls" I'M IN LOVE) is when Crowley says to Aziraphale "if Gabriel and Beelzebub can do it, go off together, then we can."
There's so so much to say. The fact he specifies "go off together". This isn't really a love confession. He's asking Aziraphale to reject heaven. Begging him. They have loved each other for millennia. He doesn't seem to think that an angel and a demon can't be IN LOVE, he just thinks that they can't GO OFF TOGETHER. LEAVE HEAVEN AND HELL BEHIND. BUT GABRIEL AND BEELZEBUB HAVE SHOWN HIM THAT THEY CAN. And he seems to think, or know, that Aziraphale loves him too.
I think this is the line I related to most. It's an experience all queer people will know, feeling empowered by seeing others like ourselves. Realising that we are not broken or alone in loving who we do, or being who we are.
But it's an analogy. (Idk if analogy is the right word I'm tired)
Crowley and Aziraphale don't have to worry about being gay, because in their world it simply isn't a problem. And I think that's why so many queer people are drawn to Good Omens, not because there are two men in love, or because David Tennant is fit (although I guess this also factors in) but because of the absolute denial of the idea that queerness is inherently wrong.
Anyway, um. Crowley KNOWS Aziraphale loves him. He's not confessing, he's asking if they can "be an us", and leave heaven and hell behind. But, despite everything he has seen, Aziraphale still believes heaven is good. Or at least believes he can make it good. (Which is another INCREDIBLE parallel with the real life problems of christianity in particular catholicism and the culture of brainwashing and guilt that comes with it. Thanks Neil. Genuinely. You broke everyone's heart but you're making me discover things about myself.)
The confession is almost forcing Crowley and Aziraphale to love each other like humans do, with the potential for loss. It forces them to love in preparation for them leaving heaven and hell behind. I think that's why it's so difficult for Crowley to speak to Aziraphale, because their love has gone unspoken, and Crowley already thought they were an "us". Only now is he discovering that his Angel still believes in heaven. Aziraphale isn't naive. He is in denial and filled with guilt, you can SEE THAT IN EVERYTHING HE DOES.
Anyway yeah!!! No one will read this but I needed to get it out of my system. If it makes no sense that's fine it made sense to me for at least 5 minutes.

Peter, in a deep voice, holding ken: nonsense, barbie. you're staying home and having my kids
Simon: what the fuck are you guys doing?
Elias: playing systemic oppression

I may have yassified Aristotle. who knows.
I'm sorry but I can't help but find people who try to visit uncontacted tribes and get subsequently murdered a little bit morbidly funny. What did you THINK would happen...
"The uncontacted peoples of the Getthefuckout Islands, known primarily for firing incessant volleys of arrows at any vessel that gets too close, will surely welcome our missionaries with open arms."
I also think it's really funny that the only groups to successfully contact the people North Sentinel Islands were extremely polite Indian anthropologists. Madhumala Chattopadhyay and a team of anthropologists had multiple instances of peaceful contact with the tribe, because--hold onto your hats--the anthropologists respected them, offered food and goods (coconuts and iron), and left when told to leave.
Additionally, Chattopadhyay came to the conclusion that--don't be shocked!--further contact of these tribes was neither necessary nor helpful. She was quoted by National Geographic in saying:
“The tribes have been living on the islands for centuries without any problem. Their troubles started after they came into contact with outsiders. The tribes of the islands do not need outsiders to protect them; what they need is to be left alone.”
To any would-be John Chaus out there whose desire to preach to the "godless tribes" overrides their survival instinct, please take a note from the people with actual experience relating to the Sentinelese and don't go there.
feminism never taught me to hate men but it did help me realize that i shouldn’t prioritize them over women & it turns out that alot of men consider that to be hatred lmao.
today I was wearing a nirvana shirt and I passed someone in a foo fighters shirt and I think we had a mutual Dave Grohl moment.
This is his year.
Dear PEQUEÑO Y GORDO here will be turning seven this year. I was wondering how they’re doing. Are they still gordo? Less pequeño?
From quick research I know that this was one of three sumatran tiger cubs born at the Chester Zoo in 2015, so this is either Jaya, Topan or their sister Kasarna. If it is Kasarna I found an update pic from her zoo’s Twitter from when she turned four! (The boys seem to have been moved elsewhere?)
Not so pequeño anymore, (but still an hint of gordo imo) Happy tiger year!
I found a more recent one of her from last year (also from the Chester Zoo’s Twitter)

I have one very simple political belief and that is 'if there is a thing that a person will suffer or die without, then they should have it, and they shouldn't have to earn or deserve it'
Sorry if I broke the news for you.
