He Moves With a Purpose
hiii! so since ch5 is coming way too soon, and i'm already gonna have to rush my next video to get it out before hand, i will not have time to make the Ralsei video at all. So instead, i'll share the main points of it here in text form.
It was gonna be called "Moves With a Purpose" (bmbmbm ref for true knowers), and it'd have focused on what Ralsei's driving force is, what his purpose/motive is, why he hides so much stuff from everyone, and how darkners work.
first main thing is that every darkner needs a purpose. A purpose to live, to exist, otherwise, they turn to stone. Ralsei is unique in the sense that he can be in every darkworld, so he seemingly has a purpose everywhere, in every darkworld. But what is this purpose? a lot of Ralsei's actions kind of come off as acting. He's acting for us, acting like he doesn't know about us, but, at the same time, he wants to keep us, the players, happy. Always following our lead, like in the quizzes where he just answers whatever we answer.
Ralsei also seemingly knows, well, everything, like the prophecy, including answers to all puzzles, that he just doesn't want to give away.
This, along with how seems to kind of fear us, and what we are capable of, kind of leads me to believe that his true purpose is to not only keep us happy, but also, engaged with the story. His purpose is to keep us, the player, around. He wants us to be engaged in the story, in the game, not get bored of it, and for us to engage with the story as a game to win, to complete, and because of this, he doesn't want to break the illusion of the 4th wall. It'd risk our immersion breaking.
He acts as a tutorial character, to make sure we don't quit the game due to skill issues. But also, he doesn't want the game to be too easy, as to the point of us getting bored. When we get bored, we might quit and cover the world in darkness, or, do something worse...
He doesn't turn to stone in the darkworlds, since his purpose spans across them all. The story itself, the prophecy, is integral to the darkworlds themselves, so he always has a purpose, as long as we are here. I don't think Ralsei is evil, or up to something nefarious. He doesn't tell Susie everything, since he fears she would break said illusion, break our suspension of disbelief and take us out of the story.
This is why he doesn't want to talk about Spamton either, he was getting close to breaking the illusion. He wanted the soul to break free of the limits of their world.
I actually think that lot of the time that Ralsei is talking to Kris, he's talking through them and indirectly talking to us, like when we are kind to him and he's flustered, since he knows a GODLIKE BEING is complimenting him. (Also he's looking at us here again lmao)
One of the moments where i think he's being genuine with Kris and actually confiding in them is at the end of Ch4.
Ralsei essentially has to walk a VERY thin line between acting like a normal person with normal person motives, and trying to keep a otherwordly godlike being happy, without said being knowing that he is doing that. That's why he comes off as such a weirdo.
I would have also touched on a few what Ralsei is theories. Him being a reflection of Asriel seems important, but the reason is kinda hard to pinpoint. The game is supposed to be for people who played Undertale, so is he just Asriel to intrigue those people more?
TL;DR: Ralsei's purpose, and why he's so weird, is because he wants to keep the player immersed in and engaged with the game, but because he is a person too, he struggles to keep the act of being a character in a videogame up, without shattering the 4th wall and ruining our immersion.
Look forward to the next video coming next week. It's going to be a rushed piece of shit, but i want it out before ch5 so what can you do.
