        she stood , staring at the sea -- the waves rolling over the shore , not allowing the salt water to touch her. a frown appeared on her face , as much as she learned about the human world , she ended up understanding less and less of it.

living your life among the waves, no rules other than the rules of the sea, where it’s a kill or be killed world out there. she doesn’t know anything about the human world other than what her colony has told her. humans are dangerous. yet ryn is a curious creature and she breaks away from her colony to explore this word she knows nothing about. not realising just how hard it would be. she knows nothing of their language, picking it up as she goes and nothing of their ways. so many things are different in their world. 

she did not expect the strange looks as she wandered around naked through the streets. until she realised that they were all covered. ryn resorts to stealing clothes off washing lines. 

        “Miss!” 

        Zack had been nearby and seen the exchange. He felt a little bad. Clearly there was some kind of difficulty of communication, but the girl did seem hungry and upset. So…

        Zack jogged after her and once he reached her he held up the fish that he had purchased. The one she had been looking at and asking for. It wasn’t that expensive… and if it would help someone…

        “Here. This is for you.” He handed it over with a smile. “It seemed like you were hungry. Sorry if the guys around here can get a little stodgy. They work really hard and people can be difficult. I hope this helps you out.” He smiled even brighter and saluted in a sort of wave. “I’m Zack, by the way. If you ever need some help around here… well I’ll do what I can, okay? Feel free to ask anytime.” 

RYN STOPPED WALKING AND LOOKED AT THE MAN WITH THE FUNNY hair. Her head tilted to the side in an unasked question as she looked at the fish in his hand. Her eyes narrowed, distrust clear within the Siren’s eyes. Humans were such strange creatures. They seemed to help each other -- was the entire human race in one large colony? Even if they were, it seemed strange to her that they didn’t fight constantly.

She took the fish and looked at it, sniffing at it as she did. It wasn’t as fresh as something she would find in the ocean sure, but she was getting tired of having to steal clothes off a washing line every time she came back out. 

“...stodgy? “ The word sounded funny on her tongue, it was one she hadn’t come across yet. An accent thick and heavy making the word sound even stranger. “... what is stodgy? “

“ I am... Ryn.”

Ryn is a SIREN whos loves her home. Though she is curious about humans. She found herself in Bristol Cove.  Ryn chose her name RYN from a child’s TV show that she watched briefly through a window. She has a sister named Donna. 

Ryn as a mermaid is fairly FERAL due to her nature. In the water it was kill or be killed. So her natural instincts sometimes kick in. Though with those she comes to care for, Ryn can overlook her natural nature and help those who she loves at sea. In her human form she is very curious, finding humans fascinating -- wanting to learn their ways and their odd little quirks. She is very intelligent though struggles sometimes with how different the human world is to her own world. 

RYN IS A NATURAL BORN PREDATOR and because of this she can be dangerous. In her world, she hunts to survive and fights for survival. Its a tough world and due to that she has become tough and often kicks first and doesn’t generally ask questions unless it’s pointed out to her that it’s wrong. She can and sometimes will attack with the smallest of provocations. 

She has a remarkable memory and though her speech is broken she has picked up the human language fairly well.

THINGS TO NOTE:

Ryn doesn’t quite grasp the concept of personal space. Please bear in mind that though she is or tells herself she is, half human -- she has lived all of her life in the water. So seeing humans touching, hugging and kissing is something she thinks is normal and she is likely to kiss you as way of hello without realising that it is something only romantic partners do. PLEASE NOTE THIS DOES NOT MEAN SHE IS ROMANTICALLY INCLINED TOWARDS YOU.

Ryn is pansexual.

The notion of love astounds her. They do not have relationships, marriage or anything like that in the ocean. So it’s an entirely new thing to her. (Ask her about their mating rituals, that will make you laugh.)

She often refers to herself in the third person. “Ryn is..” “Ryn will...” Ect.

If she says to you, “Name is love.” It might not necessarily mean that she is in love with you, it might only mean that she trusts you. 

Family is everything to her. 

If she doesn’t like something or doesnt trust something she will hiss at you.

She is a very touchy feely person. She will also stare at you. If you have visible scars or tattoos she is likely to get in your personal space to inspect them. 

Her song is both mesmerising and dangerous. It can cause obsession to the point of insanity. However it can also mean other things and much less nefarious. She is able to relieve some of your pain through her song and touch. She can also sense your emotions, though she won’t know the reason behind them. She doesn’t always pick up on them either.

She is very blunt in her words because she doesn’t know she shouldn’t be.
