Okay so I had this idea in my head for four years now and I cannot believe it is finally out! I was in Scotland, visiting all those beautiful, medieval castles when inspiration suddenly hit me, but until now this only existed in my head. So thanks so much for this prompt! I had a blast writing this XD
Also I told @siosiriโ all about the beautiful castles and spiral staircases way back in 2018 (time does go by, huh) and she was immediately on board and even drew a little sketch. This was what really gave me the inspiration for this. Iโve attached the sketch with her permission :) Thank you so much, my dear!
During the feast to celebrate the end of the war, crown prince Atem sneaks off to find a quiet moment to reflect on his actions in the final battle and to hide from the person that saved his life. Of course, his cousin finds him anyway and has a few things of his own to say about the princeโs behavior.

โThatโs not very compliant to the rules.โ He interjected and watched entranced as Seto threw his head back and laughed.
โI donโt give a fig about rules.โ
โYes.โ Atem smiled a little. โI know that. Itโs just that Iโฆโ he started, then stopped because he didnโt know how to address this, how to ask Seto that one question that had been plaguing him ever since that fateful battle.
He looked down at his feet, needing to get away from this piercing stare while trying to find the right words. But of course Seto wouldnโt let him.
โYes?โ He said, the familiar challenge in his voice sounding a little demanding than usual and Atem took a deep breath.
โI donโtโฆ I donโt really understand you.โ He started and it was obviously the wrong this to say, because Seto just huffed in disdain, crossed his arms in front of his chest and glared at him in that particular way of his.
โOh, donโt worry. Youโd be the first if you did.โ
โBut I want to. I want to so much and yet Iโฆโ he stopped, clicking his mouth shut. What was he saying? What were they even talking about? And why were his ears suddenly buzzing so loudly?
He only caught some rustling and looked up in time to see Seto taking a step towards him. On instinct Atem took a step up. He needed the space between them to think.
Seto stopped but his eyes bore into Atemโs chest so hard, he could almost physically feel it.
Atem swallowed. โWhy did you do it?โ
Again, Atem swallowed. He had to ask, he had to know because heโd been replaying it in his mind over and over and it just didnโt make any sense. โStop me. On the battlefield.โ
